As Dave said in this video, the Bosch Gen 4 is a bit of a nightmare! And not really suitable for "having a go" in your garage. I am a keen advocate of people being able to fix their own stuff, but this motor is one motor I would not recommend!
What dave Did not tell you is that if you snap a...
As Steve has rightly said, this is all metal filings and grease, there is no dirt. Water had destroyed the left hand crankshaft bearing and made its way along the crankshaft to start rusting the gears. Normally, by this time most people would stop and take a look at what was causing all the...
Sadly no wine for me. Although it would have been possible to repair this motor, eventually, it was way beyond economical repair and cheaper to offer him one of our reconditioned motors in exchange.
We get a lot of motors in the workshop where the owner has gone with the old adage... I'll fix it when it breaks! Unfortunately, with an ebike motor once a different noise is noticed coming from the motor, it's already costing you more money every pedal stroke!
However, some people try and push...
Hi Sam, Firstly, there are 73 different 500's and we can fix most of them now, so if you're in the UK we can probably help, if not you can speak to one of our worldwide partners. Secondly, we have a test bike that will run a Gen 2, 3 and 4 but unless you want to do a lot of modifications to your...
I think you're forgetting a few facts here. An ebike motor is designed to take 2 to 3 times the weight and power than it does in everyday life, therefore a heavier person will make no noticeable difference to the motor overall.
Imagine adding 20bhp to your car's engine, the stress through the...
Every eBike motor sounds different. For example: Yamaha's have a distinct gear whine, some are whisper quiet and some are horrendously loud. Same with Brose, some you wouldn't know they are switched on, some are quite obtrusive. And it's the same with the Bosch and Shimano, some are quiet, some...
We have tried, but this issue is not currently fixable  It's caused by very slight backlash or "play" in the drive train from the electric motor to the crankshaft. There are a set of very small gears, that each have a tiny amount of play (necessary, not poor engineering) and it's these...
I can guarantee that a riders weight will make no difference to any ebike motor. After all, you're not going to weigh more than a cargo bike and they don't have motor issues any more than a light weight rider. We see motors from big dispatch riders with legs like tree trunks and from skinny 85...
I can't believe I sat through all 7 minutes of that! First thing I would try is changing my shoes! It sounded just like a squeaky shoe to me
If the spacer is fitted behind the front sprocket, or a "boost" sprocket is fitted with the lip facing inwards, your thoughts are spot on. What happens is mud gets compressed down the back of the sprocket by the chain. This compression is powerful enough to force mud between the sprocket boss...
Hi Beekeeper, this is a boost spacer for your front sprocket. If you are running 2.8 tyres, it should be behind the sprocket. If you have thinner tyres, it would usually go in front of the sprocket. It is used to help the chain past wider tyres.
It was not used on all bikes and depended in frame...
Shimano motors can be repaired. We used to repair them and we sell the bearings for them. The only reason we stopped repairing them was because of the common fault codes that would brick the motor.
I am unsure of the grease used in this video but do not be tempted to use the very similar...
Yamaha use bushes and the grease is starting to go after around 1,500 miles, then the bronze bushes start to wear themselves and the crankshaft. So I would agree that unreachable bushing is not really the best way to go.
Sorry guys, I have not seen one yet. One of the few I haven't! However, I have heard good things, and the fact that I haven't been contacted by anyone asking if we can repair one, is usually a good sign!
What do you mean by "revising the motor"? If it is under warranty, it should be replaced and this can be done by any Bosch dealer. The sound you can hear is your main motor bearing failing. Do not continue to ride this, it can eventually (quite quickly) kill your motor dead!
Unfortunately, this will always depend on the type of terrain you ride (dusty, sandy, muddy, a bit of everything! etc.) Also, this question is very dependant on your cleaning habits (after every ride, occasionally, never. With a hose, with a pressure washer, with a cloth, etc.). How you...
For all Giant owners, we have not given up! Now we have seen what Giants "service Centre" have been telling and charging people  It has galvanized us to pursue this further. We have enlisted an electronics company to help find a workaround for this issue. Although, there are a few projects...
