@Doug Stampfer my experience with Bontrager wheels is that once you start breaking spokes, you'll just keep on breaking them....they're just not very good wheels sadly
@Doug Stampfer I haven't tried bigger rotors yet. I read an interesting article about running a bigger rotor on the rear than the front Ending the rotor size myth – Why you should have a bigger brake rotor at the back than the front | ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine I don't know if I'm going to...
Highly recommend the Loam dropper from PNW Components. Of all the droppers with adjustable travel, the Loam is the easiest to adjust - can literally do it trail side without tools - and also has the most adjustment - 25mm in 5mm increments. Also their customer service is second to none.
Have you? I guess with the semi-floating riveted designs there will always be the odd one that develops play...I am sure the vast majority of riders have no issue with their Hopes or Maguras...I guess it comes down to how well a company stands by the warranty if any issue arises
Good to hear about your experiences, hopefully you have many more miles ahead of you with this bike! Another thing that can come loose is the crank arms , especially non-drive side. I torqued mine to spec when the bike was new but non-drive side crank still worked its way loose. Somehow I didn't...
The 2nd video definitely shows what I would call significant lateral movement, he's wiggling it side to side quite a bit of movement there. The design is supposed to allow for heat expansion it's not supposed to actually move. As I said a lot of people have no issues and love these rotors but...
Hi everyone ! I'm looking closely at the Magura MDR-P 220mm rotors. I have Hope E4 brakes, but the Magura rotors are a bit cheaper and easier to get hold of at present (I'm in NZ). One concern I have come across in reading reviews is that play can develop in the outer ring , as in this video

@Kiwibloke good to know, that's put me right off trying those pads... @Farmernz bro pads are budget-friendly pads made in Queenstown. I have a set but haven't had a chance to try them yet. These Aussies seemed to really like them Bro Bike NZ: Brake Pad Review

Just curious as I'm looking around for some decent pads. Have you had a bad experience with MTX pads? I was under the impression they were very good? Certainly more at the expensive end here in NZ...
Thanks @Stihldog , I have the alloy frame so should be no issues with getting extra braking forces, frame cracking etc. My only concern was whether the 220mm would actually fit, I spoke to Trek and was told no, but plenty of people here have fitted it no issues at all 👍
Everyone seems to be running 220 on the back of the Rail just fine. I was on the phone to Trek today, was told 203 max size, 220 might work fine in a straight line but would rub the chainstay when cornering due to frame flex. Any damage not covered by warranty etc. Nobody has had any problems at...
Hi everyone! I have a 2020 Trek Rail 7 (alloy) I'm looking to upgrade my brakes to 220mm rotors. Does anyone know the post mount size of the actual frame (i.e. the minimum rotor size, with the caliper bolted directly to the frame post mounts without an adapter). I need to know this to figure...
@dixie600mhz I don't know what you're doing to go through so many cassettes, the Shimano SLX cassette my bike came with is still going strong after 15 months, I'm still on my 2nd chain so I'm expecting at least another 6 months life before I need to change the cassette. You may have ridden...
