Cheers! You sound a lot fitter than me, but I am a bit lighter at 75kg.
My point of comparison is that I recently did a big ride with some friends. I was on my giant/Yamaha and used up all 800Wh of the battery to do 1600m of climbing over 40km, but my friends on Bosch bikes only needed 720Wh...
Extremely rude question so my apologies in advance, what weight are you and how fit do you consider yourself?
Obviously very hard to estimate accurately, but I would have expected a bit more range than the stats you reported.
Can you swap out just the motor? As in, is it plug and play or do you need to do some software reset to get the whole system (controllers/displays) talking?
Looks fairly legit, quick highlights:
Motor will be very similar specs, but 2 mounting points similar to the SX. 2.8kg vs 3kg for the old one.
Battery is 800Wh for 3.9kg, so a decent weight saving compared to the 750Wh (4.3kg).
Definitely a nice evolution, but I'm almost tempted to order a...
Had great luck with a 2.8 martello, sized more like a 2.6, rolled well and never punctured.
Then tried the e-mazza as I had seen some good reviews, I got it in 2.6. repeated punctures and ruined a rim because of it. Really confused why the mazza didn't hold up when the martello was rock solid...
In my experience the batteries don't hear up that much (original casing) compared to the Yamaha motor which overheats massively on hot days in the highest assistance.
Yesterday I was walking along a shared walking/cycling path when a vespa rolled on to it, the rider turned the engine off and coasted along for a few hundred meters to the next junction.
So now I finally can empathize with that deep hatred hikers have for mtbs and mtbers have for ebikers...
Either they don't care about making money from the batteries and only want to profit from the motors, leaving darfon and others to provide better batteries.
Or they do care in which case they will have their hand forced by the market next year as rumours of Bosch 800Wh, Specialized 880Wh and...
Surely any brand already selling Bosch bikes, which is most of them now...
The big question will be do they already have the bikes designed and frames ready to go. Does anyone reckon the Bosch launch has been pushed back as all brands have way too much stock of the old stuff?
I mostly wonder...
Just to get back slightly on track and about reselling to update bikes.
For as long as I have been mountain biking, spesh and Santa Cruz (among others) were way more expensive than most brands, but the bikes held their value so it was worth the added cost. Unfortunately, with ebikes that's all...
Oh I remember that mod, nice!
I'm still pretty sure there has been a 15-20% improvement at the cell level though: example is the FIT batteries going from 720 to 800Wh, a lot of lightweight packs are going from 360 to 420 etc all in the exact same size and weight.
In the latest recharged...
EVs are also going crazy because of the battery price dump.
The VW ID Buzz came out 2 years ago for about 60k, with most dealers only selling 70k+ variants. Now that the market is flooded with EVs, I see second hand ones with barely any mileage going for 40k. VW even updated their pricing at...
The market is saturated with bikes new and old.
I think most brands know this, but rather than set cheaper MSRP they will maintain high prices and do more discounts/sales as per before covid. A few years ago, you just assumed you could get 10-20% off shop prices.
Look at the YT decoy SN, they...
https://www.emtbforums.com/ams/whats-new-with-the-giant-400-wh-battery-on-the-lightweight-trance.44/
From this article, they used a different cell packaging to get better energy density, but the chemistry of the cells was not new. The new batteries used in the Orbea, Nicolai and DJI are about...
Nice find! Hype back up to 100% for the pinion!!
I ride a giant with an 800Wh battery and was blown away on group rides when my mates on 720Wh Bosch systems were climbing faster and had more range than me.
A Bosch with 800Wh can do 2000m of climbing in race mode with a light fit rider, so if...
Personally I don't do updates or touch the app. However it will be interesting to see if giant move over the next gen batteries to save 800g on their 800Wh battery pack, and most importantly will the batteries be compatible with older bikes. That is the one thing I think Giant deserve a huge...
