Well, IMO Trek dropped the ball, again. I really wanted the new Rail + with the Gen 5/800wh battery. I dont understand how the bike can be so darn heavy. Im seeing 55-56 lbs depending on the build. How can this be when the new motor and battery are about 2 lbs lighter? Im not a weight weenie guy, but I have to lift the bike over logs on the trail a lot. Our trails are remote and we see a lot of downfall. My Levo is 49 lbs. Ya 5-7 lbs isn't much but come on Trek.

Your Levo has better integrated battery, it plays big role on weight. 55lbs is not bad for 800 battery, IMO.

The rail+ is my first ebike. Ive got the Rail+ 8 XL . Im coming of a large Slash and XL top fuel . I was quite surprised at the weight . In a good way . Bike rides really well . Ive had a few fences etc to lift over .

Really Enjoying the new bike . cant really get my head around the modes. Only used Eco and Tour + . I climbed a fairly steep hill in Tour+ and felt more than enough . This is the first ebike , im i ok to just use the lower power modes, or should i put it into the Emtb or turbo modes for big climbs? or is it a case of use it if you need it ? The mind boggles as your cruising up a hill you were pushing up a few weeks ago

No right or wrong answer......a guy I know will 'show off' about how little battery he has used on any given ride. I have the opinion that the perfect ride is where you finish with as little battery power left as you dare.
For me, blasting up hills, especially off road can be as much fun as going downhill and certainly can test your skill levels.

It's each to their own.

I like to "earn my turns" so I mostly climb in tour+ unless its over 20-25% grade then use EMTB. I never use Turbo

Tour+ uses your modes from eco to turbo automatically so keep riding 😀

Still no real reviews, at least in the mainstream EMTB media, but here is something. I wouldn't call this a full ride review, but yes, they actually rode the bike and made a few notes other than just repeating TREK's own marketing material. Seems like a decent option for those looking for a Bosch Gen5 bike with a removable battery.

Not a ton of reviews because its not an exciting product. The last rail was ahead of the competition when it first came out but after a few years it was just meh. The new Rail doesn't seem like a huge improvement over the previous and the frame design looks dated. Would have liked to see a more aggressive frame with sharper lines, no seat tube gusseting and a better charge port cover. Also the small Trek logo just looks like an afterthought and I think they could have done better with the color ways and livery.

Hi all,

there still don't seem to be any reviews of the Gen5 bikes - or has anyone found any yet.

Perhaps someone has already been able to form an opinion of the 9.8 GX, especially the Fox fork and damper are of the GripX-Version not the X2.
Does this fit to the bike? Especially regarding the fork I am a littlebit confused - I normally find GripX for Fox34 and Fox36 but not for Fox38.
38 are mostly with a GripX2 damper.
I am wrong?
Is GripX for the fork sufficiant or perhaps the better choice - can somebody help!?

In regards to looks, that 800 down tube of the new Rail - is massive and industrial vs slim and sleek of a 600 bike

So I don't get why there isn't more hype about this? What other Bosch Gen 5 800Wh bikes are there with an _easily_ removable battery. Pretty sweet I reckon.
On the old rail I know a lot of people over stroked the shock, but on this it looks like it is already 65mm so no possibility for more than 160mm rear?

The bike is proper. Rides very well. People hate the looks mainly.

In the high position travel is 163mm - with a 170mm fork and some better brakes it’s brilliant. (Have tried in this setup with full Ohlins )

I think it looks great. Fact is it's just hard to package an 800Wh battery without some bulk.
My girlfriend is looking for a gen5 bike to replace her Gen1 Kenevo, I reckon this is a good contender.
SC Bullit might be nice, but fixed 600Wh battery is a deal breaker, because if she gets range anxiety my ride is cut short 😁

Would be good to see what a coil is like on this Rail +… recently bought a vivid coil for my Levo and I’m a convert and Rob? what’s is happening to the recharge podcast?

Ride from the house budd and we have loads of stuff on our doorstep 😜😜... Yeh has 2 flipchips one for low/high and one for coil/air but there is no clearance for a 29" wheel
What is it with bloody mullets?
not good if you cannot put a 29 on the back,same as speccy levos,virtually all mullets,do manufacturers not realise some of us dont like them 🤷‍♂️
