I upgraded my Yari to the Charger 2.1 in 170 and liked the stability it gave but I was getting more pedal strikes. I've since moved the link to the high position and really liking my current setup other than the flex of the fork. I weigh about 280 right now, so I know I'm stressing everything more than most, so I'll likely upgrade to the Zep Ultimate or Fox Factory 38 sooner than later and I will get a 170 from the start.

How are you attributing more pedal strikes to longer forks?

Except it doesn't. It lifts the front, slackening the head and seat angle but raising the BB (very) slightly. You get the extra travel from longer forks, not deeper insertion..

Are you running the forks softer now, with more sag?

Perhaps you are hitting stuff harder and consequently sitting deeper in the travel, given the increased confidence the better forks will bestow.

I have 170mm Zebs on my rail but I have also increased the rear travel to 161 with a fox Dhx2 as I did not like having 20mm more on the front than the rear. Felt unbalanced. Would highly recommend the coil shock tho, transformed the bike!

So you using a 230x60 or 230x65 Fox DHX2?

I hate mine. Trek rail 9.8 with zeb select. Upgraded it to RC2 2.1 damper so it’s an ultimate now. 170 air spring Refreshed the lowers. Even installed a smash pot tried 3 different springs. It’s better but pales in comparison to my fox 38. It’s paired with a fox 2021 dhx2 165mm with progressive spring.
Both low and high speed compression is backed out completely and it still makes my hands numb on small chatter.
Going to change the internal oil to a lighter weight and see if that helps.

I jump on my other bike with fox38 and it’s night and day better.

Zeb Ultimate here and I’m not entirely convinced. I have tried different settings and finally running it without tokens and 100 psi for 210 lb rider weight. Not bottoming out but I am not happy with mid support.
Despite running the new Debonair C1 ,fork sinks 1 centimetre or so
I have had Fox 36 Grip2 and in my opinion is superior and the 38 must be even better

Try slowing your rebound setting. If the fork rebounds too quickly, it will add to the harshness on small bumps.
I'd start with 2 clicks from closed, and go to 3 or 4 if it packs up.
