TBF Rob there are only really 2 types of Santa cruz owners.
Santa cruz fanboys
And Santa cruz supported riders.
Santa cruz don't really need to pay for reviews to sell bikes. The presence of their supported riders created their market/image via race results/coverage (SYNDICATE etc. ) and social media (Cut media, Danny Mac, EWS, 50to01 etc.)

Surely anyone who buys a bike is a fan of that bike or bike company. Who buys a bike they don't like? In the first three lines of your text, "Santa Cruz" could be substituted by any bike brand name. Should buyers avoid companies with good/clever/well funded marketting campaigns? Perhaps the advertising industry have been doing it wrong all this time..

Buy the bike that works for you. Haters gonna hate.

If you like the Santa Cruz Bronson, chances are you’ll like the SC “eBronson” Heckler.

If you don’t like the Bronson, look elsewhere.

I had heard about the rumored SC eBike many months ago. But my experiences with earlier versions of SC were middle of the road. I didn’t like the rear suspension. It had been years since I bought anything but a Specialized, but strangely I didn’t warm up to the Turbo Levo. I liked the SL, tho.

Personally, I was leaning toward ebike or analog versions of Ibis, Pivot or Norco or Rocky Mountain.

Then I hopped on a new Bronson with the new rear shock configuration and it was a different bike. Much better pedal platform. And I like how it handled and hammered over chunk.

I test rode many different bikes. But I got the Heckler (at a smokin’ my-LBS-Loves-Me price).

I like it just fine. But I don’t tell inquisitive people to necessarily buy one. I ask them what they want from a bike. I have recommended YT, Norco, Spesh, Haibike, and some of the others. I have only recommended the Heckler to one person because he wanted the stuff (and shop support) that comes with it. He bought it. He likes it too.

A 911 S, on the surface seems like an overpriced car where they ding you for every option you add. Not the most powerful or fast in a straight line but gets it done on the backroads. Why buy it when you can get a Mazda Miata, a Used Honda S2000 or a new Corvette all of which are better deals at far less cash outlay and allow you to go too fast around too fun corners. You don’t buy a 911 for perceived value, you buy it because of its craftsmanship, attention to details and next level features (I mean leather on the AC vents, come on!!) and you like it, can afford it and want to.

I feel that way about my Heckler. Everyone that sees it loves it, yells at me ‘Nice Santa Cruz!’ As I go by, it oozes quality at every detail and it rides so so nice on fox fork, RS shock and carbon fiber hoops (lifetime warranty btw) with butter X01 shifting. Does it have the biggest engine? No. Does it have the largest fuel tank? No. Is it the lightest FF bike? Maybe.

Is it what I wanted at any price, 100% yes.

Nope.

You're taking to someone who's "owned" Well over 250 bikes from pretty much all of the major brands over the years.
I have no allegiance to any brand. And yeah. All 10 of my current bikes work very well for their purposes for me.

Haters gonna hate.
I’m a 50yr old guy who still rides a BMX, I really couldn't GAF what other folk think.

this suggests to me that the frame is identical (can't fit the longer 630 battery), but it can fit the ep8, so potentially good news for existing heckler owners?

this is highlights of my heckler demo earlier this year.

I now own the same bike, bought it as ex demo, but upgraded it last week to all my existing parts. it is a cracking bike to ride.
I was getting a decoy, but got fed up waiting after three weeks of them having my money and not delivering the bike that was in stock at the time of ordering.
I think it was a good thing the decoy did not get delivered, the heckler just rocks.

All of my Filipino friends have them, It’s not a political or racial statement, just an observation.

@JetSedgwick I expected more from Santa Cruz if I am being honest. They had all the the time in the world to come up something truly groundbreaking since they were late to the party. It reminds me of a first gen Carbon Levo. It looks dated and it’s brand new. I will stand by my statement that the E8000 is mediocre motor. 53lbs and it’s carbon?

what is even more mind boggling to me is that Focus and Santa Cruz are owned by the same parent company, couldn’t they have pooled their resources together? The Focus bikes bury the Heckler.
Dude! I’m Filipino and I don’t know how to take that. I ride a Trek and a Specialized. Should I buy a Santa Cruz? ?

In fairness .. as the sites owner actually has one, we can't say he's bias in any way on what brands end up with their own sections.

But where do you draw the line ... Halfords Own ?? ... XYZ supermarket ... Penelope Cruz ?
I would like to try a Penelope Cruz (L) where can I find a demo?
Strong motor?

I recall when the Heckler came out, some reviewers commented that SC has invested in CC molds only for the Heckler which would lead me to believe the frame will largely go unchanged for some time. I can see SC updating the Heckler with EP8 without any other changes in the future.

But what do I know? I think the Heckler won't be the only e-Bike from SC for long.

Or just maybe its the new 504Wh battery same size as the new 630Wh battery to save money and weight. I don't think it would be that hard to mod the frame to make it fit....
