Mitsubishi Delica, definately. If you can can find a decent one (or import one yourself)
Make sure you check underneath as they're not undersealed in Japan so relies on UK owner doing it as soon as it gets over here...
This is my beauty and they have proper low range 4WD like a Land Rover.
My XL Trek Rail fits in easily with no faffing about taking wheels off etc...

but it’s between this and yours atm :)....local to me are a bunch of importers it seems, didn’t undersealing stop being required after 2006 or something?

They are very popular here in Tasmania. As usual though, like most of those with 4wd, they rarely see conditions where 4wd is needed. Most of the time it seems like driver skill is lacking. I have a 1999 ford econovan; they are notorious for getting bogged / losing traction when there is no weight in the back. I live in very steep country and haven't lost traction for years now. Even our driveway is steep and convoluted - I reverse down it so that the weight is on the rear axle when driving out. I also adjust rear tyre pressures according to load / no load. I always consider where I park when in the bush - for example, if the side of the road is soft, I'll park on a downhill. If the surface is good, I'll park with the rear end down the rise (if there is one). Just find a good van and learn how to drive it. They're also heavy steering - you can see that the seats are literally over the front wheels. I straighten corners out wherever I can - again I drive pro actively. This means looking as far ahead as I can see and being in the right place at the right time. People see me go wide at the start of a blind corner; if a car comes the other way I'm already back in cutting the apex. I sometimes see people following try to emulate - most of the time they go wide at the apex - they just don't get the details.

I went for the 2.5 lt instead of the 3.5 expecting it to be better on fuel but it's a thirsty beast.
I ending up it getting an LPG conversation and am paying.0.53p a litre which softens the blow.

theres only 2mpg difference.....I thought the same but was mistaken I think, In fact in typical gung ho style I put a deposit down on a 2.5 thinking surely it was a bigger difference but I’ve cancelled the purchase, the dealer is decent and will refund so the hunting continues

Did your remove the rear seats or do anything cool with it? Thinking about doing a side conversion

No I've kept it standard, I was thinking of a camper conversion but I like being able to put the bike inside or having 8 seats
I've only ever slept one night in it but hopefully I'll be able to get away more often next year
With the standard set up I'm sure I'll be able to make a bed on one side and have the bike next to me which I'd prefer for security reasons although I do have an awning for the side.

Sometimes bigger motors are more economical when touring. Around town, no. Out on the open road they're just loping along easily. It may becoming a thing of the past though, that sort of travel.

worth mentioning if your concerned about getting stuck in a field more off road style tyres are better than a 4x4 with summer tyres. The trade off is the noise and mpg.

Me personally I'd like an swb black van with an auto box (too lazy to ride a clutch in traffic) with winter tyres. Why black because I'd have 2 magnetic vinyl decals made for saying "private ambulance" park up slap those on, no ones going to hurry to see what's in side. I guess if it was a white van I could have decals say "Licensed Asbestos Removal"

Nice you went for a rider, be a sporty drive! These are a pain in the ass to buy especially with sun roofs, I didnt want cream originally but might have to go with it as options are limited, where did you buy from?

Has anyone looked at BMW 2 Series Gran Tourers? Available with AWD and without velour. Not sure if the boot opening is big enough to get the bike in upright though.
