• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

I want to return to Bosch as the Gen 4 performance looks pretty sweet.

As anyone here got serious mileage (like 4/5k) under there belt yet to prove any of the solutions fully work?

That's pretty encouraging. Decent mileage with no errors

Have done 500Km with Gen 1.1.0 set at 38Km/h in eMTB and Turbo mode no errors. However, the battery has died and will not charge so needs to go back to manufacturer for testing. I've removed the Volspeed v3. Will they be able to see the motor was being used above 25kmh from the logs?

I don't think so.
My motors logs was sent from my bikeshop to bosch to review - no comments about anything. Bosch changed the motor to a new (still waiting on it though) without further...

Yea they defo won't be able to see with definite data as the tuning boxes constantly tweak the speed data been fed to the drive unit to show you're below the 25kph limit. As I understand the Bosch drive unit records lots of parameters from your riding and undoubtedly a human could look at the data and see things don't quite look right, such as constant high energy output but never going above 25kph for example. However there is extreme examples of where this could happen like riding up a mountain or into major headwinds for ages. Probably why some people who have never derestricted their bikes erroneously getting 504s

CX gen 4, 1.1.0.0, Volspeed V3, limit set at 38kmh, 500 kms travelled, no errors. I leave the display on when stopped, and let it turn off by itself.

Ive just covered my first 1000 km on a cx 2020 gen 4 with 85nm update,
I had a 501 code about a month ago which I reset on the spot but no other issues at all.
the volspeed was installed at about 250 km from new and I set the limit around 40 kmh most of the time.
Its been through mud rain and rivers and ridden almost entirely off road.
very happy with mine so far.

Glad to hear that, but what about the error 501? I haven't found it in the manual.
Do you have installed 1.1.2.0?
Thanx

Yes had the latest software installed from new in late July, 501 is a sensor fault just turned it off and it cleared, not seen it since and I don’t think its anything to do with the volspeed as I was going very slowly when it happened.

Hi so I have CX gen 4, 1.1.0.0, Volspeed V3 on my new Canyon Grail On gravel bike set to 50kph no errors and so far 262 kms I have only had it 10 days. George from ebike tuner assures me it makes no difference wether its set to 32 - 50 kph.

I would like to share follow information.

Bike : Cube Reaction Hybrid SL 625 29
Engine : Bosch performance line CX GEN 4, software 1.1.0.0.
Display : Nyon 2, B350-cef, software 1.0.8.0
  • Extra Nyon 2 function : Individual drive mode, Mode1, Mode2, Mode3 and Mode4 (4 extra modes above the normal modes, eco, tour, emtb and boost), so you have 8 modes in total
  • Extra Nyon 2 function: Lock function

E-tuning : Volspeed V3 for Bosch GEN 4 engine.
  • Volspeed placed on 35km/u
Everything works fine ! (But only 50km ridden yet)

Installation tip for Nyon 2 display:
  • You have to control the tuning the same as with the COBI without installing the COBI app !!! Find pdf below.
  • I installed the Volspeed V3 with the engine as described on the manual
  • Use the handlebar buttons for installation (Not to quickly) I pushed them much too fast, and than nothing happens !
  • I logout my Nyon 2 (You will not have your 4 individual driving modes anymore)
  • I disconnect wifi and bluetooth
  • I followed the instructions for COBI installation
  • I connected again with wifi and bluetooth
  • I login again (I have back my 4 extra drive modes)
  • To activate Volspeed you must use the standard drive modes (You can not activate Volspeed with individual driving modes)
  • Once the Volspeed is activated you can go to your individual modes again and you will have engine support up to the level you installed (for me 35km/u) On the "ebike connect app" you still see 25km/u.
I hope this can help some people.

I'm really happy with this configuration. Now I can drive with my friends with standard MTB's and they don't have to wait anymore in the fast sections between 25 and 35km/u. With the individual driving modes I installed them with follow support : 1(70%),2(90%),3(110%) and 4(130%). I can nicely tune my engine to the correct support so I still must do a lot of effort to follow my friends.

Thanks Bosch and Volspeed people.

I hope I can enjoy this for a long time without having errors or other problems. If this occur I let you know.

My two cents:
Bike: Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 625
Engine: Bosch performance line CX GEN 4, software 1.1.2.0.
Display: Intuvia
After about 600 km. with the original engine I decided to install Volspeed and the bike has now completely changed...
For now only 60 km, speed limit set to 32 km., no errors.

Im a big fan of flite test as I fly rc freestyle drones and planes too, yep waterproofing circuitry and connections is totally achievable if you use the right products in the right places. Im sure a lot of people who are getting sensor faults etc could just be down to moisture or contamination in the contacts which could be avoided with sensible application dielectric grease or similar products.
DC 4 is used commonly on aircraft and is approved by Boeing/ Airbus/Embraer plus others Ive used it for years and swear by it.

I bought Some DC4. should i apply it inside the female 3 & 4 pin connectors then just plug them back in? Same for the female battery connections? It wont conduct between the pins and cause problems?

I update my statistics, a little over two months with volspeed installed at Rail 9.9 in firm 1.1.0.0, around 1000km, I started with the speed limit at 32km/h, went up to 35km/h and finally left it at 40km/h, my use is mainly enduro, I hardly do track or anything on asphalt, no problem to date and a wonder dont have the annoying countdown that I had with speedbox

Yes thats correct you can put it inside the plugs , mine has been trouble free for over 1000 km now and has been through a lot of mud and water in that time including river crossings.

Equipment: Bosch CX Performance Gen 4 Purion + VOLspeed v3.

I've been using a high speed setting with mostly Turbo mode which has been perfect for over 1000 miles on FW 1.1.0.0. I turn off the bike manually with the power button every time.

I recently had the software upgraded at ~1100 miles from FW 1.1.0.0 to FW 1.1.2.0. Within 30 miles after the upgrade I've finally received the dreaded 504 error.

I will remove the VOLspeed for now.

I have a few questions:
  1. Should I remove the VOLspeed v3 while I have the 504 error or can I keep it in?
  2. Does everyone ride for a certain amount of miles after reseting their 504 before reenabling the tune, or does this not matter?
  3. After enabling the tune after a 504 error, what kind of milage are people seeing before seeing the 504 error again?
I think this is the first report of someone using 1.2.0.0 firmware. I'd only seen reports from people on 1.1.2.0.

I wonder if your bike shop can roll it back to the earlier firmware that seems to have been stable?

Don't think there is a 1.2.0.0 , latest bosch cx firmware on bosch website is 1.1.2.0

My mistake a typo! I meant 1.1.2.0, the latest firmware. I've corrected the version in my original post.

Did 600 km without before. Have set the max to 32 km/h with dynamic mode on... So far no issues ?

Update here:
I'm going to leave the VOLspeed in and pedal to reset the 504 error. After this is done I'll reactivate the tune, I will report when I get another 504.
