Thank you guys! I knew another way , with the front brake pressed and the front suspension locked you force a little the handle bar forward and with the 2 fingers of the other hand you feel the “play” close to the upper bearing ..
I thought that it might Specialized had made more scientific with an exact torque especially when the bike is almost new and there is no wear to the bearings...

Spoke to them about this. They have not yet tested / certified it to be ridden without a battery. But the battery is not required for structural integrity.

Anecdotally it’s fine to ride without BUT they cannot yet officially say so.
Any update on this from specialized? It’s almost a year later.

Mtbr Forum did a SL review where they rode with just the range extender, so it seems it works. Would be good to get official confirmation though.

The Mtbr video mentions that they prefer the handling of the bike with just the built in battery.
