My Vala won't turn on this morning. Pulled the controller from the top tube and checked the cable, seems secure. Bike is charged. Only about 20 hours of riding time on it...anyone know other quick checks to perform prior to really digging in? Could the remote battery already be dead and would that keep it from powering on the system? I see 5 LEDs scroll up, down, then down a second time. Kind of annoyed that it won't connect to the app and give me some info.
Sounds like either a power cable or the battery connector at the end of the battery I had a few of them fail on my last bike take it back to where you bought it as it’ll be under warranty

Yeah...I wanted to avoid downtime at the shop if possible, but probably not possible.
- I use a power-tracking smart switch to charge it, so I know it charged up (and was already half charged anyway)
- I rotated the motor out of the way and checked cable continuity, and the cables are fine. Didn't seen any power when I hit the "on" button, but also not sure exactly how the system decides to power up the drive unit.

It's pretty simple in there so not much else I can do.

I think that happens to me when I do a long press on the power button. A lot of electronic devices need a long press to power on, to avoid mistaken startups. But this does not seem to be true of my Vala . Long press turns my vala on then turns it off, and I see it cycling down after I've released the button. I have to consciously resist doing a long press.

Oops I was wrong. Probably thinking of another bike. Short press and long press will both power on and power offthe Valla . it goes through a sequence of state-of-charge bars going up to the top, then going downward to the bottom, then all coming on at once. Long press does not turn off the power. On my Vala. Short press does.

More of a Bosch question, but in regards to the range extender for the Vala, can it be plugged in once the main battery starts running low or does it need to plugged in from the beginning of the ride?

Santa Cruz addresses this in the bike FAQ. It can be done but it’s recommended to run them together from the start, as bike will likely be short on power using the range extender with a depleted main battery.

New colours on the way for the Vala or do we reckon this is from their next bike to be released?

Taken from the SC website on the Vala page, if you scroll down to the details matter section it's just under there.

On a side note, does anyone know what sort of voltage is required to charge these bikes? Looking at getting some electrical system in my van to be able to charge the bike on the go between different spots on road trips etc.

I appreciate the reviewer talking through their suspension setup. I have seen more and more of this “wide open damping” advocacy lately, which is interesting to me. Anyone here running their Vala like that?

It’s green if you zoom in…

Think they have played with the brightness on the images.

I’m currently playing about with suspension settings, might try it next ride fully open.

I bottomed the fork out on a drop to flat last weekend. Think I may have blown some pressure into the neg so need to sort that first. Made a decent bang 😅

I experimented with open damping a few weeks back as well. I convinced myself it was worth trying on my blue tech bracketing laps, but I ditched it real quick once I got back to steeper chunk and stopped “trying” to like it.
