i set mine to the high setting right away and it still seems extra low. this is due to the weight and is std for all eebs, but also the fact that it's really designed as a self shuttle bike where other eebs are more trail bikes. i did the same, ridden a couple of very janky xc trails (easy to access) just to get used to riding the bike and it's still fun, but it was clear to me that it's not the bike's happy place.

i also put my preferred dropper at 210mm on right away. given the weather it will be a while before the good trails and big descents will be open, but i'm stoked for this bike.
Did u ride the 2020 reign? That was low!

I managed to break the software on my bike again. So that you guys don't have to 🤣. Steps to reproduce:

1. Install app on iPhone or Android (doesn't matter)
2. Connect to bike
3. Change brightness settings for night riding from 100% to something less bright

You don't have to install new firmware or anything. Doing the above is enough to break your bike.

What happens then is:
  • The bike turns itself off every time I turn it on
  • The settings for display brightness disappear from the app
  • When turned on, all the lights on the control display are "on" and "white" (left and right side)
  • When turned on again the on the left row a blue dot is visible in the middle
  • Then the cycle repeats itself - all white, one blue, all white...
  • In both scenarios the bike turns itself off after 30 seconds
  • In both scenarios the bike controls won't work. I am not able to change the motor settings with the remote
Last time it happened a week ago and the bike was operational again after around 2 days of just standing and doing nothing. I think with battery in the bike but I'm not sure.

Let's see what happens this time. If it will fix itself again. I contacted Giant software support this time.

I have a (fairly useless) update on my bike which has the same issue.

As my bike is one of the first in the country no one has a clue how to fix it.
I suggested they restore it to factory settings, but they don’t have the software tools and Giant won’t give them access to do any significant changes.
After a bit of trial and error they got the bike up and running with an older controller from another bike… this bypasses the controller in the top tube.
Nothing else worked

I am now waiting for a temporary older model controller (ergo 2 I guess) to come from Australia which will get me up and riding for now.
Pretty annoying but it is what it is

I have an E+1 2022 and have done 160ks- all single track. I like the way it handles compared to my previous 2 ebikes, a Merida e160 & Specialised levo SL. Its well speced for the price & the motor is very quiet. I have only changed to carbon bars, grips& AXS derailleur & shifter…. What I am disappointed about is the battery range compared to my riding buddies who have the Bosch, Brose& previous Yamaha motors in there bikes. At the end of a 2 hour ride I would have at least 10 to 15% less battery left. We travel at the same speed and similar modes and I would be 10 kgs lighter . Anyone heard if there could be a software update in the future to rectify this?

I played with the brightness settings too and have no issues at all - lucky me :-I)

So guys. I didn't go to my shop to fix the problem in hope that I will be able to "click" through it myself and write how I did that. I managed to do it but the bad news is that I don't know what is the algorithm. I started and shut down the bike several times yesterday morning. After that I left it with battery inside and waited till the evening. I started playing around with switching on and off the bike, trying to change the motor power etc. Finally it just worked. So I don't know what exactly works. But it's the 2nd time clicking like a monkey and leaving the bike with battery inside worked.

250watt/36v = 7A (nominel).
625/36= 17.3
17.3/7= 2.47h

If you use 250Watt on average you will have battery for 2,5h (in practise it's less as you are not allowed to completely drain the pack). But as you know EMTB motors can peak far above 250watt.

You can always get the 750wh battery, I think it will fit all models with that option (please verify it before purchasing).

I think that @RFB said that he had 10-15% less than his friends not that 10-15% was left.

I have similar results with new reign e+ 0 as I had with Bosch 4 gen 630Wh. But I didn't test it enough to tell you what the difference is. What I can tell is that auto mode on Giant is too much. On hardcore uphills it's fine, but on anything else the assistance is too much which will drain the battery quickly. Also the auto mode is bad for goofing around. When doing wheelies it tries to much to adjust. On 2.or 3 bars wheelies are pure pleasure.

Nobody asked for it so here's my 5 cents about the bike :p (version 0 size L)

Components
  • Grips (Giant): great size, fit nicely with the remote, durability - we will see
  • Handlebar+stem (Giant Contact SL Trail 35): for 182cm tall and long hands 800mm is too wide so I cut it to 780mm. back sweep and up sweep together with 50mm step feels perfect for this geometry. I droped the stem 1cm. Does what it supposed to do. Works
  • Headset: I looked inside and it feels cheap as hell. Open bearings. Right now it works but I hope that dirt will not kill those open bearings too fast. Good that Giant didn't go with idiotic Acros headset with routing through the headset that everybody else is using right now. I had Acros this year and mud and grit gets through those 2 holes all the time absolutely killing the bearings and headset cups
  • Saddle: hard, fits my big ass, after 3h ride didn't feel a thing. Works
  • Dropper (Giant): I replaced Giant 150mm to Giant 170mm. What the hell were they thinking putting 150mm to L frame I don't know. Parts shortage? This is a SUPER basic part. What generates the pressure is a cartridge so it is hardly serviceable. Still I think that it might come out to be more planet friendly than you think. I service my RockShox droppers every year, my KS LEV was NEVER serviced since 8 years. I hope that this will be the case here and that after couple of years I will just replace the cartridge instead of using a ton of fluids every year. New cartridge will set me back 35EUR. The thing works. Smooth enough, doesn't make any noises. I hope it will last. The trigger is very nice
  • Cranks (Praxis e-Carbon): JFC. Proudly removed them and replaced with Hope cranks. After 1 trail ride on those carbon sticks I destroyed those beautiful rubber boots. Completely. If you really want to ride this or any other bike hard, carbon cranks are NOT a good idea.
  • Wheels (GIANT e-TRX Carbon): They work. They are stiff. Will they survive I don't know. I'm pretty sure that the Maxxis DD on the rear wasn't a good choice from Giant. The only hope for the rear rim is that I will replace it Maxxis DH or equivalent. The rear hub definitely has a tendency for teeth misalignment and you can feel and hear a loud crunch. I don't care. I had it million times on other bikes. Even with DT hubs. Time will tell how these hold up. Will the spokes come loose and will this carbon last.
  • Casette (SRAM NX Eagle PG-1230, 11-50T): Finally SRAM! I had 5 different SRAM 12 speed cassettes this year. All shitty as f. Wobbly which made the shifting unpredictable and horrible. This time I got a good one. Thanks!
  • Derailleur (SRAM XO1 Eagle, 12): shifts like shit. You will not be able to force it to shift precisely on high and low gears. Never. Whatever you do. It works. It does the job done, but compared even to my SRAM 11 speed it is shit. For this amount of money it should be a precise tool not a toy. I will not replace it because it still does the job done.
  • Shifter (SRAM XO1 Eagle): emtb specific nonsense. Changing to lower gears instead of being able to shift more than 1 cog you can shift just that. 1 cog at a time. Horrible idea. The person in SRAM who invented it and another that allowed production of this shifter, you people don't belong to MTB crowd. I will most definitely replace this nonsense. Feels like German thinking to me. Let's give people what WE think is good not what they want and need.
  • Tires (Maxxis Minion DD MaxxTerra): Maxxis. Normally I use DD and MaxxTerra for good weather an light trail riding. You shouldn't go hardcore in those tires. The side walls are too thin to think of those tires as good enough protection for any wheels - carbon or aluminum. Especially the rear. Also DD is really bad in rocky mountains cause the side walls outer layer rips off very easily. Put DH casing in the rear. If MaxxGrip is too much for you use a different brand. I switched to tubeless right away. Together with Giant's carbon rims the tires sealed beautifully.
  • Damper (Fox Float X2): I will write it below together with the frame
  • Fork (Fox 38 Float Factory, GRIP2 ): The best fork I've ridden period. On my regular bike I have heavily tuned Fox 36 with big 20mm axle (double air chamber + completely custom tuning of the damper) and 38 just laughs at my old fork. I know 38 because I was riding it whole last year and it is a wonderful part period. The settings were nonsense. I almost fully opened the high and low speed compression like I usually do in Fox forks. The buttons to release pressure buildup is a total nonsense. It will give you nothing. Unless you are attacking Mount Everest.
  • Brakes (SRAM Code RSC): I know those brakes and I like them. They are more powerful than my Hope V4 and E4 without any doubts. Less powerful than Shimano. Much more predictability and modulation than Shimano. What is a total nonsense are the disc pads. I replaced them with Galfer right away this time. Stock pads when there is even a slight amount of moisture in the air, squeak like a broken toy. Overall VERY good part. The pad contact point regulation is SUPER easy. In Hope the knobs are NOT comfy, and on Shimano pad contact point DOSN'T work. Also reach adjust here is very easy. I like those brakes a lot.
The battery (740Wh)
  • Sorry but I cannot give any meaningful input here. It's there it works it charges. Comparable range to mine 4th gen Bosch 630Wh battery. There is a difference but what it is I will need more rides.
  • The battery and motor are NOT protected from water enough. Simple hack that I wrote about earlier fixes it.
Motor (SyncDrive Pro2)
  • MUCH better than Bosch gen 4. Sorry for comparison only with Bosch but I didn't spend enough time on Shimano and others. On non auto modes it feels very natural. With Bosch you have a feeling that you have 2 throttles under your feet. Digital as hell. With this one you think that the bike works WITH you. On auto mode it's worse because the motor tries too much to adjust the power to changing environment. Introducing unnecessary lag. It ABSOLUTELY requires a fit rider. Shocked? Don't be. It is definitely tuned to deliver the highest power in high cadence. And scientifically proven that only riders that are fit are efficient in higher cadences. So if you are one of those guys on Bosch motors that pass by analog people riding with cadence 60 (or lower) this is not the bike for you. 80 and above this is where this bike is happy. Or at least 75.
  • Predictability. With Bosch I had multiple situations that the motor didn't disengage when I was doing switchbacks on Alpine trails. And this was really really dangerous. Giant/Yamaha is simply much better here. It feels much safer. Also when goofing around and doing wheelies and other nonsense. The motor feels like your nice friend not like this friend that pushed you to risk your life all the time.
  • Power. You WILL think that there is less power here than in Bosch. Especially on very steep climbs. But I tested it like 20 times last week and on my SUPER technical and steep climb and I managed to reach the summit. In the worst weather ever. So the feeling of less power especially on those super steep technical climbs comes probably from the fact that Bosch will help you in lower cadences whereas this one wants you to pedal faster. I don't know if it good or bad, but requires much more aggressive approach. Only then the bike will really help you. Shuttling is pleasure. The position and everything is just wonderful.
Frame + damper
  • Geometry while sitting is extreme. But I like it to be honest. I just dropped the bar a bit. VERY comfy for shuttling. When standing the bike is absolutely ridiculous. It's very stable at speed, it jumps of everything as if it was a regular bike. Bunnies on roots and such are a pleasure. Manuals are tough. I think I will get there but my brain has to adjust. The length of the rear + bike's weight doesn't make it a manualling machine. But I will not give up. When it comes to slow speed stuff the bike is ridiculous. I don't know what they did but you CAN easily switch this beast in the alpine trails. And the slack head angle that usually is worse for trials like that, here the whole geo just somehow helps you. Overall the geometry is absolutely amazing. And in my next enduro bike I will look for something similar. The smaller wheel in the back most definetly makes the ride more lively. Not faster but more fun. The bike is super stable in the air, but this is common for all emtbs. If you've never tried do table tops when jumping doubles do it. Those monsters actually love to be moved around when in the air.
  • Suspension characteristics. Hack to flat proved to me that this bike is SOLID and rumps up very nicely. Definitely not as velvet as some of the 4 bars, but much more smooth than other VPPs like Intense, Yeti or whatever. So I would say that when it comes to suspension reactivity it sits in the middle between dead velvet carpet ride of some 4 bars and VPPs that give you too much feedback sometimes. I know that maestro is VPP but the execution is what matters. I didn't test it under breaking enough. But seems to be active there too. I opened the slow rebound 5 clicks from factory because the bike was slow like turtle, so it is important to spend time with this damper to set it up. New X2 is of curse great. But how it works together with the frame is what matters. And together they make a very nice couple. Traction of the whole bike is very good. And I feel I still have some work there with the settings to make it even better. Pedal kickback less than on other VPPs I know and more than on most 4 bars. Gives a nice feedback when climbing. Not too much not too little. Definitely my favorite platform so far.
The app
  • Simple. Don't use it. Giant didn't recognize that entering ebikes makes you in part a software company. I don't know who they gave the job of making the app, but I had only problems with it. Bike turned to a brick 2 times so far. Just don't use it. Maybe in the future they will make it better.
Overall
  • I can't wait to ride this bike more. For ANY amount of money this is a great bike. But the fact that I was able to buy it for 6600EUR makes it even more compelling. Carbon cranks are a mistake for sure. Carbon wheels we will see. I don't know what Giant wanted to say here. Sorry for not making the frame out of carbon? The fact that the bike is made out of metal (NOT a thin one!!!) is a HUGE advantage in my eyes, and the fact that I was able to buy aluminum bike with such a great suspension and brakes is great. I hope that the battery will turn out to be enough and that nothing major will break.

Haven't seen this asked yet but to can you put charger into storage charge mode if battery is over 60 % charge ?

Yes I don't see why not since the charger has independent setting and you can put it in that mode even with the battery not being connected.

Hi All,

New member here, I've been reading all the posts, super useful thanks all.

I got my Reign E+ 1 today here in New Zealand, and took it out for a first lap.

My background, I'm 97kg, and I usually ride a Trek Remedy. this is my first ebike, but I've rented a haibike with a bosch system couple of times.

I did 2hr~, mainly cross country, justing trying to get use to it.

I managed 29km and 1200m~ of climbing, took the 625w battery down to 5%, or whenever it starts limiting the power. I was using level 4/5 at first, but settle on level 3 after a while. Auto felt a bit kinda serge-y. I reckon I could get closer to 1400m with better power management. Power felt fine, did like me to spin a bit faster, like some others have mentioned.

On the riding, compared to my remedy.

to soo low, heaps of peddle strikes, I might try moving it into the high setting.

climbing was fine, and super comfy, just spin away.

On the downs, I didn't really hit much, but it feels silky smooth and so quiet,

its really heavy, had to lift it over a couple of gates!

dropper post is a 150mm on my size large, meh.

App crashed on me at least 3 times already :/

Overall, its seems pretty great so far. I bought it to shuttle my local bike park, and my usual ride time is 60-90mins, so I think the battery and climbing will be fine, looking forward to seeing what its like on some bigger hits!

Ah you're so lucky to be able to ride! I'm waiting on my e+ 2 to arrive. Haven't heard anything about it yet. T7 have become quite crap in the last 6 months or so.

After a lot of conversations with myself I decided to sell the wheels. So if you're interested in wheels form e+ 0 that where ridden twice so far they are for sale. I live in Germany so I guess if you're from EU I could send them anywhere. Right now they are still with factory tires on + Giant sealant + some super fancy new kind of valves I got that doesn't get stuck because of sealant. The cassette is also there. I could sell them in any configuration. But probably it would be better idea to at least sell the hoops together. I'll do some advert on Bikemarkt too. I will not give you a warranty but if you are from Germany I think it will be reasonable to help in case anything would have any defect there. But I tested them so definitely they are 100% great right now. I will make a spoke tension graph if anybody wants.

These are carbon wheels. E-trx with hubs made by Giant with DT Swiss internals. 28 spokes. One 29" and the rear is 27,5". The lacing is some fancy DBL thing invented by Giant. Something with the way of distributing forces in the wheel. I will read more about it and maybe copy the idea when buying the new wheels.

Honestly I love how they ride, but if you've read my previous posts I think that a rider with a bit less tendency to do stupid shit will be happier with them. Carbon Praxis cranks are there also waiting for a new owner. Reasonable offers please. These are still super fancy and new wheels. It's just the owner who is an idiot jumping off stuff.

I'll be building the usuals for myself. So DT hubs on ex 471 or 511 rims. So something more appropriate for a nutcase.

I’m waiting on an E+1 from Evo and they have been very vague too. I’ve seen posts on Facebook from guys in Nelson and Palmy who have there’s. When I went into my local Evo they said they still don’t know when the bike will be here. It’s pretty frustrating.

I ordered mine from Giant store in wellington, it was due mid Nov, and arrived two weeks late. Hopefully yours turn up before Christmas!
