Would like to connect a light from previous bike ( Fathom ) a Lezyne macro drive 1000 . I know how and where to connect but how do you turn it on and off with new controller.
Maybe you gonna need a second controler for it? The new RideControl GO supports two controllers. In a Video Giant explained you can customize the functions via the RideControl App.
Or you just control the light directly if it has control buttons. Since a while the light is turned on by default when you power on the bike, and thus you could turn it off or set power modes on the light itself?
I've looked in the E-MTB User Guide v12 that came with the new Reign but the new controler is not mentioned. My advice is to reach out to yur Giant Dealer or the Giant Support to get a valid answer. Please share if you do so.

They are at opposite ends of the same category.

It sounds like you need to have a think about where you ride, how you ride and what you are really looking for out of an EMTB.

Comparing specs or trying to find the best bike without trying to understand their handling characteristics seems like a good way to make a bad choice. Though, if you mostly ride sitting down through blue and green graded trails, it probably doesn't matter what you buy - in which case I'd suggest the cheapest bike with a motor.
Reign and Rail is not on opposite side of the enduro category. Rail is in the middle and Reign is more toward the DH range. Opposite would be something like a Radon Render.

To truly understand their handling characteristics you need to ride them yourself (an option I don't have). Rail is usually test winner the last few years and a proven design. Reign is a new untested design that has not yet been in a group test. It might be to heavy or sluggish. We don't know. You need to do back-to-back testing to really notice stuff like that. It's not a bad bike. But it might not stand out like some other ones.

the trail is a longer travel trail bike by design that in some specifications nudges into enduro territory.

that’s not to say you can compare or consider the two bikes as options, but they are not like for like comparisons.

If you are into full on enduro riding, DH etc the reign is aimed at that, if you are more into trail riding the Rail is likely more suited.

We are constantly changing what the categories mean. In 2019 it was an Enduro bike. 2022 it's called a trail bike. 2025 it's a down country :).

And Yes, Reign is the more up to date "modern" enduro bike.

Categories are irrelevant, my point is they are very different bikes, it's not like comparing two similar bikes. They are both EMTB's and that about where the similarities stop. Completely different suspension systems, different wheel sizes, different travel.

The Reign's most direct compatible bikes are the likes of the Nukeprooof Megawatt, SC BUllit, Vitus E-Sommett, Focus Sam 2 etc.

The rail is more compatible to a Levo, or the new Giant Trance E that has yet to be officially released but basically looks like a shorter travel carbon framed version of the Reign.

I think most people buying EMTB's just want to get he best overall package at a price point, which means they looked at very different bikes.

If I am looking for a new bike I am very specific about what I want in terms of sizing, geometry, travel, suspension platform etc and would start off with getting what I wanted on those fronts in a shortlist before even looking at what motor, price etc of bikes.

Categories are getting blurry as the Rail could easily follow the Reign E+ pretty much anywhere with 160/150 travel with more enduro based components like the Rockshox ZEB fork & Super Deluxe shock.

However, the 2022 Giant Trance X E+ at 150/140 with trail based components is really a pure trail bike and will have an hard time matching the Reign E+ performance on the descent.

Anyway, I don't see the point of having a low travel eMTB as you're getting penalized on the descent, but gets no real benefit on the climb since the motor is doing pretty much all the work.

Nice decals!

Sometimes I wish Giant was a little bit more explicit about their branding on their MTBs.

The color schemes are awesome, but most of the time there's no apparent Giant logos and if there are logos on the bike, they're pretty dark.

Shock & Fork stickers are blacked out also most of the time, some nice matching colors would be awesome like the decal kit above!

Oh yeah 🤦‍♂️ I’ve gone for the 0 model which I’m guessing is what you’ve gone for by those colours. As soon as they are in they are sold. Giant store in norwich had one. Missed out on that by a few hours then tredz popped up with a couple. Now all there large models are sold. Gave you got yours yet?

I will give my experience with my new reign in the wet so far. I live in BC Canada on the wet coast. It has been raining here more than normal yet I have had great rides. I have to hose my bike and myself off after every ride. I use a light spray just good enough to take off the big chunks then I use muc off to do the rest. After the clean up I remove the battery and dry out the compartment. There is not a lot of water in there but I dry it out anyways. If you are hosing your bike off avoid the hole where the T25 torxs is used to remove the battery. It is not sealed and will let water in easily. I have not had any trouble so far(knock on wood). I can honestly say I love this bike. Sure I could have waited for the next bigger and possibly better bike but while some are waiting and contemplating, I am having a blast. I have attached a pic from my ride yesterday(finally had some sun) and a couple of the hole where the torxs is used to remove the battery.

Yeah I’ve gone for the 0 too mate but doing it through the cycle to work scheme so was limited on where I could get it from. most giant shops told me to do one and wouldn’t let me split the cost but Liverpool didn’t question it. It’s not due till mid dec so got a long wait lol. Get plenty pics of yours posted on the meantime to keep me drooling lol

I’ll put some up mate don’t worry 🤣🤣 worth waiting another few weeks mate to save the 20%. Didn’t think they could say no to the cycle to work scheme. Probably too much paper work for them.

It’s not that they said no, they just wouldn’t allow cash top ups and my company only go to £2.5k max for some reason?! Anyway scousers came good lol

I think that’s the most you can go to on the scheme. But fair play for getting 2.5k off the bike. Fair to say my missus wasn’t too happy when I gave her the good news 😂😂

@R120 has already made the point which I was trying to make better than I could and it's ultimately your money to spend.

Consider this comparison:
by reference to wheelbases and head angles (etc) Merida and radon are intended for flatter trails and one one end of the 'enduro' category. The difference between the Reign (low position) and the Rail is greater than the difference between the Rail and the Radon.

Again, the best bike will probably depend on your riding and the terrain, so I'd suggest you think about how steep your trails, how rough they are on the bike are and how fast you ride (ie. compared to racers). With higher spec'd suspension above a certain level, you are only really paying for adjustability anyway.

You are assuming that climbing efficiency is the reason why someone chooses a bike with less suspension travel. I don't think this is the main reason with modern bikes.

A 170mm bike that isn't using its travel (riding fast or down steep terrain) sits high and sucks the fun out of flat trails at slow speeds. The suspension is usually designed for maximal traction, so low speed popping and manoeuvrability are more difficult. Bikes with slack angles designed for steep downhill also turn like crap on flatter trails (ie. you might really need to weight the front tyre) and turns which are intuitive on trail bikes take a lot more effort.

More isn't always better.

Well, if you like to ride tricky uphill trails like I do you will have to agree that you have to do a lot of body movement to hover the bike up and over roots and large steps while there is no support from the motor (because you can't pedal at all) . Thus a lighter bike is a better bike to me. I am a professional mountainbike / E-MTB instructor and know my business, and there is a huge difference between a heavy 25+kg Monster truck and a 21kg Mountain-Goat 😂
I'm really looking forward for the Trance X Advanced E+ to save 1kg, and have no worries that it will ride anything worse than the current Trance X e+ 2021. And for the downhill days, I'll just grab the Reign 😁

The light I have does not turn off it relies on the bike having a switch. The only settings you can change with ridecontrol app is the brightness of the LED's of the Ridecontrol display but strangely does not dim the power button itself. Maybe when you connect a second controller that option will become available , has anyone done this yet added a second controller ?

Hi all, is there anyone here that is ~170cm in height riding a Med or a small on the new reign? Looking at the geo a size small seems to be a better fit for me as i think 455mm reach is going to feel a bit long. There is no stock in Sydney to try one out yet. 😓

173cm tall and I find it spot on in High position setting. I'm riding all my Bikes with 460mm reach incl. Stem and am used to it. Gives enough room to move one the bike.

2022 Reign owners - What is bottle cage space like on this bike? Is there space for one of the bottle cages that hold a tool underneath? Something like the Lezyne storage cage.

Couldnt get it on the Trek Rail even without a piggyback shock. Looks to be a bit more space on the Reign

On my M model there is only space for a 450ml Fidlock bottle. 590ml does not fit 😔
