I'm agree with you, I don't like the dangling motor too. It kinda reminds me a bit of the bafang convertion motor.
With picture I can only imagine, but if the motor catch something it could be really bad
I'm looking forward for long term review about it.
I didn't really know what bothered me with Sonni, but Your comparison made it clear: like aftermarket Bafang - although more sophisticated, still quite similar looks. Even though, in fact, Sonnis motor is at least 100 mm higher, as in any other real emtb.

It just look the same, I have any doubt with the quality of the bike. But I can only imagine what happened if you do some mistackes, errors when riding: casing a big jump landing on the motor, during technical climb,…
Udge impact on the frame/motor at this specific area… or even something that is sticking/catch in this area
Again, Its only speculation as I dindn’t see this bike or test it
But it’s the only gray area I found about the sonni, else I would buy it eye closed

Looking for experience updates from k2 Sonni owners... K1's moved to mid March.
So they are delaying the sonni now as well as the voima? I had assumed the voima delay was so they could concentrate efforts on the sonni.

I believe it's just a repair on one of the CNC machines that is pushing everything back (again). My K3 build date has been moving each week (was supposed to be built each week now for 3 weeks). Can't wait for the bike, but they certainly are making me wait - this is my 6th shipping date. But they are getting closer, so fingers are crossed.

Had a quick ride on a Sonni today. Felt very different to my Voima. I noticed it turned way quicker. 190 / 200 fork (Boxxer) RS Coil and mullet. Felt plush AF and not harsh or stiff whatsoever.

Got my K3 to build and test.

Nice! Looks good. Unfortunately my K3 was one of the ones being milled when the machines went down. No update yet on progress. I'm interested to figure out if I'll be able to fit a longer dropper (210mm?) with the seat tube being that low - I imagine it'll fit, but I won't order it until it is (finally) here. Looking forward to more ride impressions.

Looks like you went all in to the apex predator configuration of this bike. Glad to hear that it's not overly stiff. Can't wait for more details.

So much for the much anticipated weight reduction of Sonni. Only a 104 grams less than Voima, without the jockstrap.
Those massive bearings did it in.
How much less were you expecting it to weigh? At the end of the day it still uses the same motor and battery and that makes up the bulk of the weight.

I’ve have held my Voima frame with no motor or battery in it, and honestly it doesn’t feel that heavy. Didn’t really feel like it weighed anymore than my full carbon Orbea Wild frame when I did a frame swap on that bike.

Given that a Bosch CX Gen 4 motor + 750Wh battery weighs ~7.5kg that's an unbelievably light bike! I'll take 2 of them (y)

Thats awesome Rob! But isn’t it 200/200 With the Boxxer on it? The Voima is 190/200 with a dual crown, but the Sonni has 200 in the rear So it would be 200/200.

It's been awhile, but I think there was video post from Leo that intimated a whole 1KG weight drop from Voima!!! I lifted an Onni prototype at Sea Otter 2023 and was stunned at how light it was in mullet config, especially compared to the Vikella that was nearby. Dimensionally the frame and stays are skinnier and the bike itself is cut from a shorter billet and without a motor casing, so I was hoping to see a measurable difference bear out. Perhaps refinements along the way like fortified shock mounts, yokes, bearings and shafts took their toll on weights (a worthy tradeoff IMO).

The Voima itself has shed some 100g weight along the way, so for me I should hopefully see a near half pound difference from my Version 1 Voima. But the 1Kg boast was simply off the rails.

I think the double wall downtube probably make up the bulk of the weight gain from the original prototype. That and the aluminum wrap around bashguard, which is optional. But I think most people will be getting it.

It was somewhere on the origin marketing guff. Maybe It was in one of Leo's video's.. the whole point of creating the dangling motor was to remove material and reduce weight.
I think the original prototypes were lighter, but then they made the downtube double walled, so the weight naturally increased.

If not for weight savings then why?
I dont get it.
They compromised bottle placement, battery charging on the bike, increased the C of G heigh, added a catch point and made the bike ugly as sin.

It makes no sense.
