U.K.

I love this ride and the bits inland that can be linked in - a hoot!
In case you haven’t seen it, consider having laugh watching Rob Warner’s vid of a similar trip that includes Old Harry Rocks….
The bit where he crawls out onto ‘Harry‘ is genuinely hilarious! And just before that, he tells Olly Wilkins, “You can ride down it, lots of people have done it!“ 🤣🤣🤣 You’ll know Rob from his RedBull World Cup commentary and you’ll probably also know he was the first British DH World Cup winner and rode with Steve Pete back in the day.… He was a wild boy then, and maybe now too, but not out on Harry‼

Up staying near my parents. Weather has cleared up nicely so took some photos and it just had to be done, hired some bikes at Kirroughtree (15 minutes away!) as couldn't bring ours for the trip (long story for another time).

So from the Isle (of Whithorn) which is not actually an island, just a peninsula out in the Irish Sea from South West Scotland, I took this shot on my phone of the Isle of Man over the water from the harbour mouth.

Today we did the cycling - hired two Trek Powerfly S bikes of about 2018/9 vintage. So I now have an opinion on the Bosch system they use compared to the Shimano setups on the bikes we have. Interesting and certainly different. Not sure I like the way the power is delivered by the Bosch drivetrain. Certainly more pokey than the Shimano but not as controllable. It's either on or off and when its on its full on!

Glorious day, if a little chilly on arrival - still frost on the ground at 10am.

16.1 miles, only 1650ft of climbing but I will be back here with the bikes again... Only did the Blue circuit with my wife and part of the Red on my own before the bikes had to go back...

For me, this bike is absolute perfection. No chain, no gear cassette, no slipping gears, lightning fast shifting. Can’t remember being so happy with a bike for a very long time!
14 speed internal Rohloff hub with electronic shifting.
Gates Carbon belt drive
Bosch Gen 4 Kiox.
Customised with factory rack and mudguards

Nice ride down to the seaside today - 40.7 miles in 3 hrs with 40% remaining on the Levo SL battery & range extender. Shame there wasn't quite enough to ride home so had to take the train back 😂 The Downs Link from just south of Guildford to Shoreham is worth a go - not too many mountains but plenty of bike👍

It's a decent route, I live by the southern end of it & have done it a few times. Nothing to set the pulse racing but a very pleasant way to knock in a few miles nevertheless, spesh if you stop by The Bax Castle near Christ's Hospital for a pint.

After a lot of teeth gnashing I finally saw sense and binned my planned Whinlatter ride ( respect to Richie who was there yesterday on his mtb ..see rideout section) ..being blown off a mountain in Gale Force winds isn't too high up on my wish list ..so lived to visit another day ..and went local today instead ..
Although I love a trip to different areas its sometimes easy to forget what we have on our doorstep when familiarity with the trail wraps you like a warm blanket ( ffs..stop it ..that was nearly poetic) ..and although it was still bloody windy it somehow always seemed to work in my favour ..to the extent that I had to have a couple of shots on certain sections ( Shake Rattle n Roll / Twist & Shout on the Deadwater Trail and Skyspace / Butteryhaugh..on the Lonesome Pine ) ..using the fire roads to climb back up ..
The new Deadwater section on Twist & Shout in particular is now fully bedded in and is riding really well ( can't bring myself to use shit like shredtastic ..but oops I just did 😂) ..
The upside is that I've still got Whinlatter to look forward to for a maiden ebike ride ..this time with mates 👍
Some pics ..
