What a cracking ride out today in crisp and bright winter sunshine. More than makes up for not being able to catch up with our ridding buddy from Yorkshire @JFDI on Saturday due to inclement weather.
@The Hodge knows this place like the back of his hand ( back in the day hand building and planning some of the original Red Trails ) therefore he can name them all but not me I can never remember them.
So on that note I can’t add to Neil’s excellent post so I’ll upload the pics I took starting with the newly laid stuff to the original reds which have been restored

Thanks mate for another tour of your back yard πŸ˜† IMG_8935.jpeg

I'll just correct that slightly to read " back in the day helping to hand build ( Capon Hassock ..still closed but due to be reinstated ) ..and yes I did help to flag out that particular trail which is the only one in the entire forest which involved no machinery ..but was involved with Kielder Trail Reavers for a good few years helping to maintain the trail network ."
Don't want to take credit for stuff I didn't do ..πŸ˜‚

It was blowing from the South West. As can be seen by the arrow.
Wrong ...the arrow is pointing to the S.W...suggest a trip to spec savers ..and if your vision is that impaired and are unable to read the small print it says WIND DIRECTION SOUTH WEST ..which means in case you need it spelling out ..the wind was blowing in a South Westerly directionπŸ˜‚

From Wikipedia;

Wind direction is generally reported by the direction from which the wind originates. For example, a north or northerly wind blows from the north to the south;[1] the exceptions are onshore winds (blowing onto the shore from the water) and offshore winds (blowing off the shore to the water). Wind direction is usually reported in cardinal (or compass) direction, or in degrees. Consequently, a wind blowing from the north has a wind direction referred to as 0Β° (360Β°); a wind blowing from the east has a wind direction referred to as 90Β°, etc.
Weather forecasts typically give the direction of the wind along with its speed, for example a "northerly wind at 15 km/h" is a wind blowing from the north at a speed of 15 km/h.[1] If wind gusts are present, their speed may also be reported.

Well aware of that ..but this chart is different ..it shows the actual wind direction on the " clock" as being to the South West( the point on the arrow pointing this way) ..therefore it is a North Easterly wind ..
It also quotes in writing the wind DIRECTION as being to the South West ..

Wind direction SOUTH WEST always means wind blowing FROM the South West.

"Wind direction is measured relative to true north (not magnetic north) and is reported from where the wind is blowing."

Wind direction is not the "Hodge System" it is the internationally recognised formal meteorological definition of wind direction as used by the Met Office and all airports and as was taught to me in the early 1980s when I did formal qualifications in Meteorology.

Irie.
Having just agreed with me that the direction of the wind is TO the South West ..you then go on to contradict what you've agreed with ..
I must admit it's the first time I've come across that particular chart ..but then again I'm not a sailor πŸ˜‰..and to a non-sailor it's very confusing ..
If it says that the wind "Direction" is South West then safe to say that most folk would agree that is the way the wind is blowing ..

A much clearer method is the one which the Met Office uses which quotes the direction from where the wind originates..with the arrow pointing in the direction in which it is travelling ...

I'll stick to the above method ..and leave your confusing chart to you sailors ..
@Arminius ..that's an excellent tool you posted ..just about to look for the app..πŸ‘Š
