Looking for feedback from people riding EP8 bikes

One of the complaints I have with the E8000 is that assist drops off DRAMATICALLY around 18-18.5 MPH instead of 20 MPH. I was wondering if the EP8 exhibits similar behavior or if it more gradual/imperceptible.

Thanks in advance for any real world feedback!

That might be due to setup though. My E8000 with a correctly set up circumference is almost spot on at our 25kmh.

So even an EP8 with incorrect wheel size calibration might not be perfect. I do hear the EP8 cut off is more gradual so that might help as might the slightly lower resistance of the motor unit.

Definitely not setup. Wheel circumference spot on. Confirmed by multiple folks running E8000 and verified with GPS speed on a flat open surface.

I'm fairly certain mine cuts off around the 16mph mark and in my opinion it's pretty noticeable on the flats. In no way does this put me off riding the bike. Up or down the hill, the motor is fantastic

The motor drag on the E8000 is very noticeable when this happens, and, well, I tend to ride "briskly" and notice this issue quite often. It might not sound like a big difference, but that 10% it cuts out early is in the "sweet spot" speed when I'm hammering flowing flat singletrack.

there really isn't much noticable drag from the E8000 motor at all.
What you're actually feeling is the resistance to your tyres combined the extra 20lb weight of an Ebike and your percieved pedalling effort before the motor cuts out hitting reality. ie. fooling you into believing you're a stronger pedaller than you actually are.
Remove your chain and spin the cranks forwards with the motor off and you'll be able to feel just how little drag the motor actually has.
50lb+ bikes are simply dogs to pedal and soft compound agressively tread tyres just makes them even more so

Stunlocker should be able to help you raise your cut out speed
or you could simply fit faster, lower rolling resistance tyres to reduce the shock of the effort you need to put in when you ride past cut out speed.

No doubt about that Gary - the abrupt cutoff is definitely more than just motor drag of course. It's the "abrupt" nature of it - and the early cutout - that is the cause for my consternation. And the motivation for the post - to find out if EP8 changes the nature of this at all.

Cheers and happy holidays!

Rick is posting from the USA that has a different cut off speed to all those that replied to him so far, except Flash (dunno what the Oz cut off speed is).

Oz is 25kmh. I mentioned that in my post. I did have my bike at 32kmh for a while and it was the same. After setting circumference it cut out very close to the correct speed.

I do agree that the cutoff is a bit aggressive. Much better on my Fazua bike where you don't really feel the transition. If it was better tapered you'd not *feel* the transition so much. But then half of us would complain we were getting ripped off with power at 23kmh... :)

This just happened to me yesterday for some reason. Was cutting out at 20 at first, then 18.5. Still had plenty of battery left
