Until the new bosch bikes dropped the carbon levo was the lightest full power emtb with a removable battery and non clacking motor in its class.

According to this test the s works levo is 22,1 kg with an 38 and 700 wh battery. With the 500 wh battery it would weigh just a tad more than the entry level amflow with a quickly removable battery and the option to increase the travel with an airshaft and cascade link into proper Enduro territory.

For anyone fine with light assist the SL is definitely the way to go IMO. It’s the silly power the DJI puts out that is making everyone go nuts. Not that you should ever need that much power, but it doesn’t matter, those stats sell bikes on their own. People just like saying they have the power.

The gen2 sworks was 2kg lighter than that with a 500 battery in and I think someone got it into the 19s

Not sure what it weighs now, but a few years ago I used a luggage scale on my medium gen2 2020 expert with a 700 battery and got 21.75kg

Nobody is (hopefully) debating that the new Brose 48v system will be the motor that's used.
I am :)
I have said it here a few times, the info I hear is a new Mahle motor with 110nm and 850ish batterty.
Even without knowing this 100% Remember the new gen4 Levo was designed and signed off about 1.5 years ago while the new Brose peak3 motor in still not in the market and rumored to stiil have some kinks.
After all that Specialized experienced with Brose, I dont see them gambling on a not yet ready motor and risking having more reliability issues on a new model.

That would be interesting for sure. That would kill Brose wouldn’t it? I assume Spesh had to be a significant portion of their business?

Most of Brose business is automotive. Don't know what proportion of its business is with Specialized but at a guess it's probably relatively small. (2023 world car production was over 90 million).

From Brose web site:

Mechatronic components and systems
The core competence of Brose is the synthesis of mechanical, electrical, electronic and sensor systems. Worldwide, every third new vehicle is equipped with at least one Brose product.

There is certainly a SUV syndrome with many ebike people but the Amflow made the light assist bikes obsolete. Its the same weight with way more power than you need it. I dabbled with light assist but the torque numbers are misleading as the power output is way smaller because of the smaller batteries. So with light assist bikes my alpine Single track uphills wouldn't be possible.

850 wh battery would mean its heavy and sluggish and/or have a really weird look to stash the battery low in the frame.

Possibly not, you look at the DJI 800 wh battery that’s doesn’t seem to be fat or bloated and I would imagine specialized using some of newest battery tech.

I'm not sure if there is a 'newest battery tech' that they could use compared to Amflow. The Amflow is mainly that light because the battery is non-removable. This makes it easier to design the battery itself lighter and the frame aswell. It shaves off between half a kilo and a kilo at least. So with another 50 Wh added it would probably be heavier than the amflow and also bulkier because those cells have to go somwhere. Bigger batteries are bad for handling.

Well, even if the new Brose motor wasn't on the market yet at your speculated date, it was still in development. And that development was certainly closely coordinated with Specialized. I'm absolutely certain it will be Brose again.

The only thing is that Brose discarding the belt design will change completely the behavior/noise of it.
The New brose design is done since 1 year, they just postpone the launch due to reliability issue, have they improve it during that window, absolutely not sure, maybe the firmware/software part the rest I doubt it.

To me it is also a gamble for specialized to knowing that brose ditch the belt not tried to go elsewhere but then there might be partnership or interest that are beyond us except that for a customer it might not be that interesting to go for it now.

I cannot at the moment dig all articles/video about it but it was teased in summer 2023, presented at some bike event on some bike and by magic nothing for one year.

Brose explicitly said that they took the year to make the mag S more reliable: bigger and more robust belt for example - still not with water ... - my bet is that, here are the speculations, Specialized forced them to be better and just not f.. their bike.

You just cannot sell 15k bike with a motor that can break within 2 months.

To be crystal clear, to this day, Brose Mag S from factory is one of the worst or among the worst with water. But gladly, there aftermarket solution, you can buy some specific parts to make it great (and not only washer).

I was fortunate enough to visit the specialized HQ near Arnhem in the Netherlands today. Some of you know I moved over with my company from the UK to Europe last year and I am now looking after Western Europe. I am a director of operations for one of the big logistics company’s. We had a great meeting they knew I was a levo freak as they put it as the sales guys had told them about me before they brought me along They had already planed a tour for us and they said hey do you want to see it he new levo. No pictures was the rule.

These things are only just being built up as they were getting the container ready to send them all to the launch event.

I messaged Rob about the vist yesterday and we had some back and forth today.

I don’t want to give to much away as the guys at Spec were really good and it was so nice of them to let me take a really good look at the new bike.

I will say this some of the the rumours are pretty much spot on but there are a few surprises that I was not expecting. It’s a great looking bike. I had the first 2 Levo’s and also now a KSL and a gen 2 LSL and I was going to get a Valar in the new year but now I know the number I am going to hang on till xxxx as I think bikes ace.

What was cool was the new fox wireless dropper first time I’ve seen one in the flesh and the factory ones look awesome if you like the gold. Seeing so many of them in one place was mind blowing.

They also introduced us to the specialized racing guys, they have a very cool set up, the stock they keep just for the global racers and sponsored teams is incredible there own bike warehouse would put chain reaction to shame.

It’s a cool day at work, and they invited me back for the launch. not the one in xxxxxxx with the influencers etc but the HQ event I am way to shit a rider to go on the other one, would have been nice mind you.

They HQ was also really cool they have a mini campus next to the forest and the main building look like something the avengers would live in.

I know. sorry it feels a bit tight but they were cool guys. I guess the main point is very soon we will all see it and a bunch of the content creators will be catching some winter sun and telling us what it’s like. I was pleased by what I saw and also the numbers on power etc. there are some surprises.

so from this i can assume if bikes are not already shipped then even a release in Jan/Feb would mean 2 - 3 months until bikes land in most regions based on sea freight , so no bike in peoples hands until aprl /may

presumably specialized will announce before the content creators post videos too, so I guess we can assume something is imminent?
