Ok and the battery in that whole scenario?

Friendly reminder, Trek slash+ 9.7 is already 8k ... and I agree that the specs are not excellent. There is no in between unfortunately as the next 9.9 is 12k wth.

Would like a grip2 on that one, that and there is absolutely no stock out there, my trek LBS has zero slash/slash-plus for this year and year+ unfortunately.

btw the overheat you mentioned is also similar to the rocky mountain but my guess was that the Rocket is way more powerful or am I wrong?

I normally ride Kenevo SL 1.1 which continuously delivers 290W of power on Turbo. Was thinking to switch to Trek for the bigger built-in battery but now have a lot of doubts.

I would not sleep if I didn't do this comparison immediately. Same conditions, same ascents. On Kenevo SL 1.1 + extender (480wh) I did today 1450m of climbs with 11% battery left. 100% on Turbo i.e. ~290w. I probably would do the same ascents as on Slash but it got dark and Spec was not cutting down the power to 200w like Trek did duet to overheating.

Old Kenevo SL would do the same meters up with 480wh vs. 580wh on Trek.
It doesn't overheat even at 500m climbs whereas Trek cut down the power from 200m up.

So now how it goes now?

I also wonder if you really need to be in turbo or if eco/trail might be enough on the Kenevo due to its light weight. I bet it is more effort but I was hoping that even the Eco mode was giving more assistance that just the difference of weight.

Same for the Slash+?

KSL 2 is at the moment, in some places let's say cheap (comp at 5.8k), Slash+ 9.7 expensive still 8k but nearly unavailable where I live.

I normally ride either eco or trail modes but wanted to maximize the ascents in the 2-2.5h window which I had at the time.

Let me rephrase to be sure, do you steel feel the Eco boost on pedaling in the KSL and Slash or for would it be only like counter extra weight?

just checked on the power calculator. You need ca. 15W to compensate additional 5kg of weight plus say 5w for less efficient drivetrain = 20w needs to be compensated to go at the same speed as on an analogue bike.
Eco mode would give easily 50-100w which is a massive support :)

Damn @Cameyo could you give me some insights about the way you feel these two bikes that would allow me to jump on one?

I really have a hard time picking one of the two.

KSL 1.2 is available to 5.8k in comp, so meaning I can along the way spare money for better parts later - and range extender.
Slash+ 7.7 is still, 8k with same kind of spec but with better battery/range.

KSL seems really good but kind of longer wheel base
Slash+ high pivot seems pretty on spot with suspension feeling - would definitely buy one day a vivid but out of the question with the current tag price at the moment.

I am really only looking to ease the climbs to do as much DH laps as I can, to have fun, tests new things and be better. I do no think I need that much assistance but on the KSL apparently the cadence needs to be higher than on the TQ which I am not sure I would like that much.

From what you are saying the comparison range is only fair when having the extender on the KSL, which make the bike heavier and maybe less composed/playful.

Last point about the high pivot, how fast these pulley are wearing? I read that lower forces are applied on them so they might last way longer.
Still as idler and lower are Trek specific ones, does that mean we are somehow vendor lock (not sure it is not generic - I guess the bash guard pulley is a third party one MRP MXG) and past a certain time Trek will no longer be able to provide new ones. I think of wear but also of rocks/crash that could damage/bent it.

I am really mostly looking for a bike to get me uphill, I do not care much how fast honestly as I ride mostly alone, playful and poppy.

Sorry to bother you mate, any advices/feedback would be much appreciated.

Does this thing fit a 29er rear (unofficially of course)?

Cant believe the price tags on it. I do want one but there's no way I'd spend the current price tag on one for the better spec.

Own an enduro so the KSL is option 2 like many others I think. But the enduro rear end can be chattery so more keen on the Trek.

Yes I saw some people with 29x2.4, some people that it does not need the slash 29 adapter. Will it be good, really depends on what you do. To me the mullet give so much clearance that I would like to keep it.

Yeah the pill to swallow for entry component on 9.7 is atrocious, there is literally nothing I would keep except SLX maybe, from fork to shock. But it should ride until I would swap for a fox38, vivid ultimate and Hayes/TRP bake.

I also saw some other online at 7.2k with not really trusted platform I would buy against or not delivery to France.

There is also some kind of not real website where you can buy but they do not really have the bike but from one of their provider which could lead to weeks or even more sometimes.

Shame that my Trek LBS do not sell like at all - no way to order one from them either.

NB: there is a very very low stock online and any pre-order or order out of stock are to be delivered on march which would be crazy to me.

Has anyone actually bought one? I've never seen one on the trails. I see loads of LSL,KSL and Rise. I've even seen a couple of Neats, but not a single Slash+.

There is at least one here and there is a small group on fb too. I don't think tons of them are out there, bike is out not so long ago and like I said there is barely any stock.

I do not know if this is the normal way of doing this but my Trek LBS told me that they order per year, one year before and have quarter deliveries. So if they did not plan to order a bike it is just not possible at all.

Fwiw, idler pulley & bashguard pullet are over 100 bucks each. Bashguard I guess could be non branded Trek but the idler not.
Not sure you would be able to have them past few years anymore (size/cog/form factor), meaning you might want to have some spare - at least one I guess.

I also discovered something troubling me, the TQ motor in the slash is a custom made for the slash. You cannot use it in another bike and vice versa, you cannot use a standard TQ in the Slash.

My guess is that the TQ motor could have a special firmware to take into consideration the high pivot, definitely something to know if you ever need a new one and try ordering one over Internet, this would likely never work.

That's very interesting, thanks for sharing. I read somewhere that the larger battery on the Slash+ meant the TQ motor would operate more efficiently and have thermal limiting less often, compared to the smaller battery in the EXe. Some of the slash+ tests seem to bear that out. I'd think that's where the differences in the motor are- more around battery management.

Yeah but I did not see any differences from the look which is why I think this is a different firmware, I could be wrong, we could also ask Trek that too.

Crikey, that's spendy!
Yeah I wonder if it's an error, nobody is going to be buying a new motor for at least 2 years as the bike was only introduced in July, so any motor failures will be under warranty until 2026, so who would buy a motor?

I think that they display on their website all the parts you could have to buy in case of service, like a catalogue? I still find it interesting as you can browse the parts you might need to buy one day directly or through a LBS.

This is how sometime I prepare some stock :D but don't look at me, I have no stock of motor nor battery, not that rich/stupid.

I am planning to rent again Slash+ and put my wheelset so I can use the tires and pressure I like without risking breaking the rims. Then I will be able to comment a bit better. I would say both bikes are extremely good at decents in rough terrain whereas KSL is more planted and Slash+ more poppy.

If I were you I would wait for KSL3 🙃 which in fact I am doing. Normally I change a bike every 2 years, but honestly don't see an alternative now. Thought it would be Slash+ but badly designed motor is not something I am going to entertain.

I could wait but not a full year, KSL2 is out from November 2023, I am not really sure we will soon something.

As for Slash+, I see with as a KSL with better battery and poppier yes - which I prefer but high pivot is not something I would like to have nor maintain.
If I want a high pivot I will take a forbidden analog.

KSL with a shorter wheel base - or configurable - and bigger battery, not heavier would be awesome.

I fail to see it happening anytime soon especially as they published new build/color for the KSL2 recently.

I testrode yesterday the Slash + at a shop with a kind of indoor mtb circuit. The motor is very quiet and delivers the power very naturally.
What I‘m not sure about is the sizing. I‘m 184 cm and was on L. I had the impression that the bike is quite small for me and I had not much room to move my body in standing position. It is certainly smaller than my current Kenevo SL in S4. Optically the bike looked short as well.
What is the experience of the owners with the sizing?
