I'm amazed that there's enough waterways which join together to enable you to get there and back !

This was @The EMF arriving at Dalby via the River Esk a couple of months ago

It amazed me how quickly the Whyte was converted back to its usual format just by swapping the wheels & bars

LBS just called me. I’ve knackered my rear wheel hub and internal axle, so a new wheel is required. Thought as much. Hamsterley this weekend is definitely off for us!

Went today and some of the trail centre trails were lethal due to ice. The climb up to transmission was sketchy and then transmission itself had me off twice. First one was at the bottom of the slope after the drop at the stone circle then a bit further on I went down again. Both were front wheel washouts on ice. Off piste in the trees was gloopy but fine.

First of all sorry to hear about your "offs"..and hope you are not damaged too badly ..
Secondly ..thanks for confirming that we made the right decision to bail out yesterday ..having ridden in similar conditions a couple of years back ..its no fun having travelled a fair distance to find out it was a bit of a waste of time & fuel ..
Cheers for the info..

Hope you’re ok fella and the bike isn’t broken ?

Doesn’t surprise me at all. We went for some walks on the North Yorkshire Moors this weekend and yesterday was slippy icy hell and today wasn't much better either

I bounced well this time. Bike wise managed to snap the clasp on the handlebar control unit. That's been fixed with a dollop of superglue.

Second crash was the best as I went over a berm and had an enjoyable tumble, cartwheel, swear, skid through the ferns coming to a stop about 15 feet further down the slope from the bike.

Like I said though we did Jimmy's, odd sox, route 666, t.w.a.t, dangerous descent and they were fine.

Well I say fine odd sox was a bit wheelspinny and if you stopped it was fun trying to start off again.

Was it the last berm on the roller coaster section before entering the flowy forest section by any chance ? I’ve almost rocketed off the edge of that a few times!

It was the internal axle of the hub rather than the actual ‘loose’ axle that knackered. Managed to bend the hub out of shape basically

Put a Nukeproof Neutron rear wheel on and so far all seems good
Yeah, other than the hub being bent I've replaced inner axles before.on dt swiss hubs.
Schematics are on web

I think we are peeing in the wind a bit at this time of the year with the weather ..and the rest of this month is probably out for me ..
What about 5th Feb ..weather permitting or if that is the "wrong" weekend for TubbyG & Lou ..the weekend after ?

If you're regular there you can get a years parking for £50ish and have 2 number plates on the ticket so share with a buddy.
Only works if you travel together tho as 1 number plate in any one time

We have the same deal at Dalby which I’ve paid the annual fee for. Definitely worth paying for Hamsterley too as I’m putting £6 into the machine every time we go

Yeah no problem. As long as it’s not below freezing or raining we’ll be there. Usually park up in the car park where you turn right just before the toilet block, and get there around 9.30-10am ish

Yo can also park up dog shit alley and roll in at the top, park at bedburn which is just outside or carry on thru Hamsterley and turn down the road before the dh. Parking down there is free as your not in the fc until you cross the bridge.
I can send map if y need but I'd just cough up th 6

As a trail builder with Kielder Trail Reavers I used to get a free parking permit for use in any car park in the Northern region ..not sure if they operate the same incentive now for a few sessions at Hamsterley ...?
That offer ( although decent ) wouldn't be of interest as I don't go more than 2 or 3 times a year ..

yeah I know the descend car park but I don’t mind paying the £6 as I use the disabled toilets as my changing room 😆 I’ll cough up the £50 for an annual pass though

I’m an hour from Hamsterley and an hour from Dalby, so we tend to alternate between the two in winter. Hood Hill / Kilburn and Yearsley Woods are my local trails and Guisborough isn’t too far either, but we prefer these places in the better weather

we want to do kielder again too but next time we’ll make a weekend of it and stay over on the Saturday night. If you know of any reasonable accommodation with secure bike storage let me know

Ok that's great mate, I'm going to head up either way, I driver a dark grey Passat estate, I'm not sure on the little one yet but will know before hand :) I will give you a shout on here beforehand. I am looking at doing the Birdsall Blast in March so need to get some practice in as I am crap haha. I dont know Dalby well and find its just normal trail riding
