Thanks mate :) I didn't realise the cinder path from Whitby to Scarborough was part of it. I might do that Saturday or Sunday with my son :) thanks. I know there is takes opening up or tarmacking the part rom Sandsend north so that must be the other part of it which I want to do as well :)

The Cindertrack isn’t part of the Cleveland Way, but it’s easy enough to get to the Cindertrack from the Cleveland Way at any point between Whitby & Scarborough so can use it as an easier return journey

At this time of year the paths will be a sloppy mud fest so it will still be an epic XC ride just going to Robin Hoods Bay and back from Whitby

Me and a mate went into Chopwell Woods for a nose last night despite it being closed (yeah we live 500 yards away so it was rude not to lol). Absolute carnage in there, trees down eveywhere.
Sounds like Hamsterley may be getting a visit soon as Chopwell won't be open for a long time by the looks of it

Naughty boy !
Someone in the know told me yesterday that estimated figures for Kielder ...40% windblown ..in a 250sq.mile area ...staggering figures !😲

Howdy, We’re good for Jan 8th at Hammers 🤙🏼

Went to Stainburn yesterday. It was dry, no wind, no rain, no mud, not cold. Made such a nice change!

Been to Dalby today. Although it wasn’t raining, it had rained last night so puddles everywhere, bike and gear covered in shit. Back to normal 😀

Good to hear ..😁
New bearings ordered for my headset as the grinding sounded a little terminal towards the end yesterday ..and made things a little sluggish steering wise..but I'm still alive !😁
Must organise a weekend in the Cheviot Hills for everyone next year ..the landlord in the Rose & Thistle, Alwinton seemed keen to do a deal ..you would love these hills and myself & Wayne could show you a cracking weekend of riding ..

Sounds like a plan, always like our weekends away especially if there’s a deal to be had. Happy to do Kielder again too, once they’ve cleared the thousands of trees that have come down!

I changed my rear hub bearings on Friday, need to service my forks now too, dampers aren’t damping! 💰💰💰

Latest estimates are there are one million trees down in Kielder..that doesn't equate to anything like 40 % ..given that there are in-between 150 -160 million trees ..but "tens of thousands " was the official line as the didn't want to scare people !

section 13 side has been fine, and oddsox, it’s just the Poulty’s down to nitrous which has trees all over the trails

Update from Hamsterley:

The Red MTB Trail sections from Poulty's Last Blast right down to the bottom of Nitrous are now open. Only one section of the Red Trail remains closed - Sam's Loop. This will remain closed until January as there is considerable damage from the Storm Arwen to clear (there is a diversion in place). All other walking, cycling and horse riding trails are open.

Just thought I would put up a bit of a roll call for this coming Saturday ..
I'm assuming 10.00am meet in the main car park still suits everyone ?
I will say straight away that I'm a slight doubt ..although now well clear of dear old Omni..I'm not 100% and as of now still woolly headed ( nowt new there) and feeling jaded ..but hopefully with another 5 days recovery I should be OK..🙏
So then ..who is aiming to be there..

We’re still aiming to be there. Have a slight issue with my bike now though. Went to Dalby today and my rear hub made this horrible grinding noise and stopped working. Pedals spin fine, chain moves, hub moves, wheel doesn’t move. Also need new cassette, chain ring, jockey wheels, chain etc so need to see if my local lbs has everything in stock and can fit / replace / repair in time for Friday afternoon!! 💰💰💰💰💰

Hope you recover from Covid soon! ☣️

Weirdly, after cleaning my bike, degreasing and lubing chain & cassette, my rear hub seems to be working ok now

Not sure what happened. I’ll take it for a spin round the block tomorrow and see if its still ok. Don’t want to spend unnecessary cash

Are you sure it was a simple case of Immersive Overload ? ie, you spent too much time with the OH over xmas/new year and when she was talking behind you it started sounding grating ? ;) 🤷‍♀️

If that's a slight issue..wouldn't like to see what you call major!😁
I'm thinking you will be very lucky if you're lbs has all of those parts ..keep in touch..
I really want to be there ..its been ages since I've been out and the bike has threatened to leave me ..😁

I'm wondering if by any chance the rear axle became slightly loose..a similar thing has happened to me before and that was the cause ..although it came up as an error code on the Purion ..?

To be fair I can’t blame her, I’ve only spent the last few days with her as had my boys over xmas and we’ve been on the bikes every day since. Plus she wasn’t behind me when the hub died. It made some odd noises when I was practicing some drops, then made a really weird noise when I jumped into a rock garden landing, shortly dying after that

Well I took the bike in for a service not long ago and they told me it was about time I changed the cassette / chain ring etc. As it’s winter, and my Rise is due early March, I told them I’d wear the drivetrain to the bone and see how long I can get away with it, and fit all new early Spring. Guess my gamble didn’t pay off!
