Yeah, unfortunately it's the only way it can work on this carrier. I can clamp it by the top tube, but then it's on a slant facing the car and the down tube rubs on the rack handle.

I recommend purchasing a Strap Holder like this one from Eufab and use the seat stray or the top tube

They are available in different length and clamp diameters (depends on the rail of your carrier).
I've replaced all the clamps on my Thule bike carrier and it makes life so much easier.
Is also very usefull if you have a carbon frame ;-)

Maybe just zip tie some thick pipe insulation around the part thats rubbing?
I ended up getting a pool noodle and cutting it up + putting them on. Still rubs and scratches the hell out of the bike but it’s purely cosmetic.

If I could do it all over again I’d not get a bike rack that dangles my bike by the top tube, and rather holds it by the wheels alone. Unfortunately I didn’t research much, just waltzed into the LBS and bought the first thing that didn’t look like a flimsy POS!

I have a problem that in the store they tell me that giant says it is normal....it turns out that every time I take out the battery the motor loses the personal configuration that I have adjusted....the same thing happens to you.... They changed my engine a few months ago...if I remember correctly the original engine did not have this problem...it happens to you too...you have to readjust all the personal parameters every time you remove the battery... ?

What is a suitable bottle to fit medium sized Reign? I blindly took a side-loading bottle cage and any old bottle I have are too tall. The piggy bag of the shock will touch a normal bottle on the bottom when doing the squish.
What options have you found fitting?

(I know about Fidlock but you see them on trailside do much you'd think they grow around here)

Late reply but I use the Polar Bottle in 15 oz (I also ride a medium Reign).

Hi there, any good feedback on fitting a coil to the reign? I’m reading the linkage is too linear for it and you blow through travel and get harsh bottom out when set with the correct spring/ sag. However I have seen a a few coil setups around including some pros bikes….

Anyone got any info, is a progressive spring a must? I’m currently using the X2 with all the spacer (max progression). So bit unsure if the coil suites

Thanks for your thoughts.

I have been riding a Novya coil shock for a few months now, slightly too stiff in order to prevent pedal strikes. I actually think it is a bit less comfortable than my stock float x, especially on mid sized bumps, but small bump sensitivity is in another realm and I'm beating all my times up and down.

Only negative, I feel like the giant lower shock axle system has innate play in it, and the coil shock makes it feel worse on a car park test, doesn't really affect off road feeling.

475lbs spring for a 78kg rider hitting a lot of drops to flat!

FYI: with the latest SmartGateway Update 20240314000 the Motor-Settings are not lost anymore if you remove the Battery. Tested it with two different Bikes and four Batteries, and even after 72h all my Settings for Assitance, Torque and Launch are still in place.
Thanks Giant ffor fixing an issue you have introduced by yourself before 🤗

FYI: SG Update 20240329000 is out for IoS and Android.
I've just updated two bikes flawlessly using the app.
The problem with the batterty not finishing to charge inside the bike is gone again. At least for this time. Will observe.

The new version of the app is also available on IOS, but has not yet been released on Android.
Users report it looks identical, but it requires that one creates a new Giand ID as it has been advertised over the past weeks in the current/old App version.

So just recently bought a 2022 MY Reign E+ 2 as an ex demo with just 79km. Zen fork seems to have the upgraded Charger 3 damper with adjustable lsc and hsc. Just starting to get it dialled in and have to say I love it. Sense of weight disappears immediately and I find it plenty while on right singletrack.

A few changes is like some advice on:

Front end feels a little low and bars are very unforgiving. Any recommendations for a slightly higher ride bar that's a bit more comfortable?

The 25kmh cut out seriously limits the bike downhill, with a lot of my local trails are undulating and taken at 25-30kph so get the nasty on off sensation which is love to get rid of. I will usually hit 47kph on my Banshee Spitfire on same trail.

Is there a way of derestricting to get bike to USA level from EU?

If not is something like a Planet 3 the best option, rather than a software mod, as I don't want any issues with warranty etc

Any other advice on upgrades?

Thanks

I got the Giant light that connects to the built in battery and it is awesome knowing I always have it on me. I would try that perhaps. I think it’s 1000 lumens.

I went with 25mm riser bars with mine.

This thing is set up better to go through rough terrain and downhill. I found it uncomfortable to ride on mellow trails where not much is happening or even on straight roads like when you ride to the trailhead. But whenever I go to a park where there are drops, chutes and jumps this thing is an absolute beast. I rode my Reign and my wife’s Liv (which is the same as their base model eMTB the Talon E+) back to back and the difference is clear. I feel much more confident on it at speeds and on chunky terrain owing to it’s weight and suspension.

But for riding to the pub? The reign isn’t your ideal MTB. I feel most people who aren’t aspiring to hit really rough terrains like rock gardens would be better served with a more XC-centric bike, but I appreciate that for many of us owning multiple bikes isn’t a practical option.

Hi Acmac thanks for the info. Any issues with the Planet 3 throwing the dreaded 6A error code?
Not yet, and I have updated the software on the bike regularly.

I actually have never seen any reports online of 6a with a mechanical derestrict. I’ve seen people claim they got it with no mods. But never with planet 3 or the speedie

Thanks for that Planet 3 mention it on their website that if used with just 1 magnet it can throw a 6A code, probably just being paranoid as don't want to brick the bike after a few weeks of ownership. Ill be running dual setup.

Been getting the suspension tuned in and have to say as I get used to it, it absolutely rips on DH and flowy trails. SO stable and secure. The 25kph is a real annoyance though as there are sections of trail that Im just bouncing off it regularly and have the constant on/off feeling. Been riding around it by braking less and trying to carry more momentum!

Going to go with a one-up riser bar to give a bit more comfort as the Giant Bar feels like a solid girder!

I’ve always run the dual, even back earlier before the 6a errors they suggested it worked better

Sounds about right, I’m on a 500lbs at 83kg.

Highly recommend rock shock with hydro bottom out. I’d be on a stiffer spring (to prevent harsh bottom out) without it and it would feel harsh early in the travel.

Going to switch to coil shock. I am 175 kbs thinking 500 lb?.sound about right?

Hi,
I have a reign e+1 from 2023 and I wanted to upgrade from 3 pawls to a ratchet. Has anyone done it or know if it's possible to do it?
the reign comes equipped with giant trx 2 wheels with trx 2 alloy mtb hubs.

I run a MRP Hazzard with a progressive coil riding weight is 175-180lbs with a 400 spring. Love it I played with it a bit to get it right. I have not touched the settings since.
I ride enduro tracks mostly and still have the OEM wheels with cushcore fr and back I’m getting a set of carbon wheels I’ll ride for more flow/trail riding at the end of season here in Lake Tahoe Ca.

I ended up with a superdelux. The hydrolic bottom out works great on it with a linear spring.

the linkage is definitely too linear to suite a coil without some sort of bottom out ramp up (hydro or progressive spring)
