• Warning!!

Riding a tuned or deristricted EMTB is not a trivial offence and can have serious legal consequences. Also, many manufacturers can detect the use of a tuning device or deristricting method and may decline a repair under warranty if it was modified from the intended original specification. Deristricting EMTB's can also add increased loads for motors and batteries. Riding above the local law limit may reclassify the bike as a low-powered bike, requiring insurance, registration and a number plate.

Be aware of your local country laws. Many laws prohibit use of modified EMTB's. It is your responsibility to check local laws. Ignoring it, has potential implications to trail access, and risk of prosecution in the event of an accident.

Ep801 solution

Howdy. It's not a stunlocker thing, but I've cracked my ep801. I used e-max tuning. They haven't yet released software for the ep801 but offer a personal service done remotely. Best 119 euros I've spent in a while. I needed to get my hands on a Shimano dongle to connect to my p.c. but they did the rest. Few emails, sent some screenshots of my bike connected to their software, made and appointment and Markus did the rest. I now have a bike derestricted up to 50km/hr, accurate speed and distance readings on the display, and the license to use on my bike as often as I need to once they release the new software. I'm really impressed and highly recommend doing it.

I posted this on the stunlocker thread as it seemed people were struggling with the ep801 system. There's no need to struggle, just use e-max tuning. I've got nothing against stunlocker, never even seen it, but if it doesn't work for the motor system you have there's a very good alternative. Just saying. Not sure why this is in italics, but it is.

Peace brothers and sisters.

Everything is displayed correctly, the limit is changed to 50km/hr in the software.

For the ep8 and older systems it's possible to change region and wheel size to get a higher speed limit, and this makes the indicated speed incorrect.

I've had a few rides now and it's been faultless.

I'm assuming that your EP801 is still under warranty but you went ahead with the derestriction anyway, correct?
Yeah that's right. It's all reversible with no evidence of it being done, apart from the speed stats. I guess if I ride consistently way over the normal cut out somebody may smell a rat. Fingers crossed it won't need any warranty work done. So far so good!

I can fully understand why you would do it, I want to too as the cut-out is like hitting a brick wall. I am just very reluctant to do so whilst still under warranty, these toys are not cheap.

So much more fun. Get in touch with the guys at e-max. They were really helpful when I was looking at my options, they were happy to answer the questions I had.

got a vid ? or it did not happen 😁

where are the other ?

is it a US drive ?
I think it is not my duty to convince you and to create a video to satisfy your purposes - I´m happy if my bike works well and if you don´t believe in this, it is up to you.
Is there any reason why I should write publicly that the mod is working if it is not - that makes no sense for me, but maybe for you...
Just have a look around in this forum and others and you will see that there are a lot of users which have done this EMAX solution for the 801. Also there are already videos of this tuning in the net.
