You can remove the e13s with a hex wrench. To install the SHIMANO’s, you need the fixing bolt tool and a torque wrench with a narrow bit extender.

The single bolt design of the carbon e13s may have been part of the problem. The alloy ones are two bolts per crankarm.

I can confirm that the weights of the different crank sets are as follows for those who are looking to replace the e13 cranks:

EM600: 555g SHIMANO STEPS EP8 Kurbelarmset FC-EM600 E-Bike schwarz
M8150: 445.4g SHIMANO STEPS EP8 Kurbelarmset Deore XT FC-M8150 Hollowtech II E-Bike schwarz
EM900: 447.6g SHIMANO STEPS EP8 Kurbelarmset FC-EM900 E-Bike schwarz
E*13 E*spec: 500g E*Thirteen

These are all 170mm. I think the EM900 and M8150 are the same exact cranks - no idea why the EM900 are more expensive. That is a pretty chunky weight saving for weight weenies over the em600 and small saving over the E*13 garbage cranks

Enjoy.

Edit: apparently m8150 and em900 are the same, but have a better finish. I'd rather have the XT branded ones!
Good to know about the em900's just having a different finish. I may just order the 8150's now

At 5ft6 + eMTB 160mm cranks are a no brainer. The decision gets a little dicey for 6ft+ riders. I went with 170mm, but imagine 160 or 165s would work just as well with bit more clearance.
I run 160's on my Rail, and 170 on my regular bikes at 6' tall only because the carbon cranks I run with SRAM drivetrains only came in 170. (X01.Next R). If I ran ALu cranks w/ SRAM or Shimano i'd go 165. I prefer shorter cranks. I'm gonna swap to 160 on my Rise as well. The loss in leverage on climbing doesn't matter on an eMTB. I also find I corner better with feet closer together front to back on shorter crank arms as I have more hip movement (not as flexible as I used to be lol)

Thanks for your input @BiGJZ74 I am having a tough time deciding if I want to go 160 or 165mm @ 5"11.
I will be replacing my 170 e13 with 160mm...now the only issue is which crank - Shimano XT or 5dev. I do want the 5dev ones, but the concern with that is wider qfactor by another 5mm (182mm).

I would 100% go with shimano. Why risk another problem with potential spindle breakage again?

plus the shimano cranks are lighter

Just received my M8150s from Ridewill Italy, they weigh a confirmed 420g with caps in 160mm length. A tidy saving over E*13 and won't destroy my motor. £115 delivered including taxes.

Just received my m8150’s from Ridewill.it. It only took a few days from Italy to arrive. I actually had no issue with my e13 cranks except I like running 160’s on my eMTB’s. I actually prefer the look of the e13’s tbh. I run e13’s on my rail as well.

I've got mine from there too. Not a particularly cheap upgrade but saves a few grams and good for piece of mind. Last thing anyone needs is a cracked spindle when its out of warranty. Did you remove the plastic stickers from the crank sides? Are they meant to be taken off or left on? I couldn't tell!

The sticker is protection...

Do we need the Shimano TL-FC18 crank mounting tool for tightening up the pre-load cap on the FC-EM600 cranks or is there a simpler way without having to purchase a specific tool ?
