Update

I haven’t posted much recently because I’ve been too busy shredding!

I have done some minor things though.

AirTag - installed so it provides a little safety net.

Sound deadening - there was a small amount of chatter from the cables in the downtube. So I wrapped them with Velcro straps and filled the space with foam. It’s silent now!

Ergon GE1 Factory grips - upgraded from standard GE1s. Super sticky grip and stealth to go with the bars.

Other than that the Kenevo has taken an absolute pounding most days and is running sweet!

It’s a tad over 25kgs which I am happy with considering the Ohlins coil, AXS drivetrain and Dropper, Cushcore and heavy duty rubber making it a Super Enduro plough!

Update

Well the Kenevo is still running sweet and I’m really enjoying it. Enjoying it so much I’m entering an Enduro event in November (at night time).

There has been an issue though. The controller on the handlebar has become faulty. I cannot select modes anymore (+ / -). The top and bottom buttons still work though. I’ve reset / disconnected and reconnected with no joy. Let’s hope JeJames come true as they are my dealer. I will update.

Lastly. I’m leaving single crown!
I’m absolutely loving the Ohlins TTXM2.2 coil shock and want the stiffness of the triple clamp dual crown but travel of the single crown. So have pulled the trigger on an Ohlins DH38 fork with a 50mm offset clamp setup.

I will need to modify the Hope 5 Pro hub for the 20mm axle. Parts all ordered.

Oh and the Fox 38 Factory forks will be up for sale too with 170mm and 180mm air shafts included.

Oh and I would suggest getting an additional set of fork rubber bumpers to help spread the load in a crash. The frame can be dinged quite easily.

I’ve gone for 180mm initially, I can upgrade it to 200mm for around £35. I will see how it goes.

Yes I think that's a sensible travel number. A2c is 608-620 for a 29" @200mm now I've checked which is massive. For reference my 40 @200 is 595mm I think.
I have a fox and the genuine bumpers were only a few quid. I wanted to keep them the same size.

Update Öhlins DH38M.1 arrived

Little update. The new Öhlins gold has arrived. Unboxing was nice as ever revealing the quality you’d expect. I’m surprised at how light the setup is in hand.

Jobs ticked off tonight.

1. Steerer cut to 150mm
2. Decals removed (pains me to do this on a new fork!)
3. Prepped for Invisiframe

The eagle eyed will spy that I have 2 sets of rubber bumpers to protect the frame from damage.

Update Finished Fork Install

All parts finally arrived to finish the DH38M.1 install.

Extremely pleased! It’s like a mini moto X bike.

Parts I needed to install:-

-DH38M.1 Forks
-50mm Offset Crown
-Hope HUB494 Pro 5 hub conversion to 20mm axle
-Deity stealth direct mount stem
-Crown race
-Invisiframe protection
-Slik Graphics Decals
-Extra Öhlins fork bumpers (so 2 each side)
-RRP ProGuard bolt on mud guard

Head angle (using my phone) is around 62.5 degrees. Axle to top tube (headset) is the same height as before. Albeit, the bars are 10mm higher. So might see how I go once it’s been shaken down.

Make sure the brake hose doesn't rub off the anodising on the right stanchion. It looks like it's touching.
I routed my rear brake through the left port in the frame as no need for over long cables when the dual crown stops the bars spinning too far.

Shake Down - Downduro build

I took the rig out to the Welsh trails today to test out the new setup.

I decided on Öhlins recommended settings from their calculator.

Ramp up - 215 PSI
Main chamber - 110 PSI

I then landed on
HSC - 1
LSC - 4
Rebound 7 (then adjusted to 8 on trail)

The setup out of the box was pretty much on point. I only bottomed out once and that was a hard square landing so acceptable really.

I felt a little nose heavy to start with on take offs, but I added some rebound and it was perfect!

What a difference it made to single crown. The steering is so direct with no flex, so stiff in corners and the rough stuff.

There was no compromise either. Slightly heavier but minimal considering overall weight, but benefits from an ultra stiff and higher quality shock (in my opinion).

There were no issues with switchbacks which surprised me (didn’t hit the bumpers once).

Also (as you can imagine) the setup is so plush, it ploughs through rock gardens like they are not there.

I love that Öhlins have recognised the benefits of dual crown for all types of riding. Hell, they do air cartridges for the DH38M.1 from 120mm all the way up to 200mm! 180mm is the sweet spot though….. Downduro!

Wish I did this from the start!

Update.

Well I’ve still been shredding the Kenevo even though it’s been so wet here in Wales.

I’ve had a few KOMs and trophies on Strava so it proves the setup has been working well for me.

I’ve made some small mods on the downtube to eradicate the rattles - it’s now silent!

Oh and I’ve decided to move away from
Cuschore Assegai / DHRII setup to a Kryptotal DH casing with no insert.

Race next weekend, so will see how they fair.

Tried a lot of things with varied success.

The only thing that worked for me was bubble wrap!

Basically stuff it down the top tube and the pressure from the little air sacks keeps the cables pushed against the frame so no rattle. Easy to pull out too.

I also put my AirTag into a bubble wrap ball and pushed against the headset.

Silent now … apart from tyres which is good

Update

So I moved from Maxxis Assegai / DHR II DD with Cushcore and have been running Kryptotal in DH spec F & R with no Cushcore for over a week.

The setup is c. 500g lighter.

Im not sure if it’s a placebo effect but it feels like it spins easier/quicker but the most noticeable feeling was the turn in. Much more responsive and felt like it can lean in easier than before. Really enjoying it and no punctures / rim dings on the rocks.

I’m entering an Enduro race tomorrow….

Hi Rob.
I've used Internal Housing Damper from Jagwire. Just used on dropper cable, rear brake and shifter cable. And it solved the problem.

They are from a Jagwire set in believe. One side is large enough for the brake hose other is the right size for the control wire

Update

Enduro race completed. It was a night race so it was so different compared to pushing it in the daylight. So easy to lose your line as you seem to focus on the near sight vs way ahead of you.

The Kenevo performed superb with no issues to report! Blasted it in Turbo and it lapped it up.

We are moving into winter now and I have been weighing up the options on getting another bike alongside the full fat Kenevo and my Non ebike Enduro.

Something that is lighter that I can whip down the trails when I don’t need the heft of the dual crown.

I weighed up all the pros and cons and I decided not to bother… the Kenevo can take many forms. A full on sledge (like current spec) or a rapid enduro lighter bike (like Rob originally had).

So I have decided to have both on one bike.

I have a set of Öhlins RXF 36.M2 arriving. Almost a kilo lighter than the DH forks, half a kilo lighter than the 38 spec forks but same internals as the DH38!

I spec’d it in a 180mm travel to keep the balance I have at the moment too.

I can swap out a fork in a few mins so this is practical depending on the ride I will be doing.

Should be arriving in a few days (along with invisiframe etc etc).

Will be interesting to see the difference in ‘feel’.

I will probably keep the Öhlins coil fitted as I love it so much, but may use an air shock to further shed some weight.

Any way until then, some pics of the Kenevo in attack mode.

I personally found the 36 @180/29 to be a bit noodly. 170 really is the limit of these thinner tubed forks.
Brother runs his 29 EXT at 170 and it runs marginally better than my old set up.
Also while your shedding weight an airshock will give you a nice weight saving and also the ability to tune in a little more playfulnesses into the bike.

For all out DH/proper enduro though your current set up is awesome. It’s what I use to run and loved it.

Thanks for the insight. I have both air shafts arriving with the fork (170/180) and it’s pretty easy to swap out due to not having to remove the lowers so I will experiment.

Yes - I have a few air shocks unused so will experiment with these too. If I like it then may get the Öhlins air shock too. That coil is superb though!

Current setup is insane though …. Full powered DH/Enduro rig that climbs tech great but descends like a pro bike!

Update

First ride out on the Kenevo since the Enduro race. Still ran perfectly. However it was sub 5 degrees so took a while to warm up to it! Taste of things to come.

Looking forward to trying a lighter weight setup on it adding some pop on the jump lines.

Ps. Not sure if I mentioned on an earlier post but the handlebar remote failed recently. Spesh replaced it and all is good again with the world. They don’t mess about and seem to love their customers.
