The Vala, on paper is 'slightly' bigger, and I've measured my Large Amflow and what I get is exactly as published

Reach and top tube length are 2mm longer on the large Vala on the charts but get a tape out and sit on both and the Amflow comes up shorter by 17mm shorter on the top tube length and 10mm shorter reach.

The XL Amflow measures 10mm longer in reach and the same top tube length as the large Vala.

Again it’s not a problem obviously if the bike fits you but as I keep saying imo if your on the edge of sizing then you need to 100% try it as large is definitely small in reality.

There so many posts on it on the Amflow Community Official FB page. loads of people who tried a large felt it was to small.
Ian Richards who had a fair few bikes and uses YouTube said the same , smallest large he had ever had, Sam Sams Ebikes also saying it. I have tried both and would also agree. Nothing worst than buying a bike and finding it’s slightly to small so hopefully people will do there homework and try both if they’re on the edge.

You can crudely but if you have a reasonably good eye measure the top tube length with a tape , from the middle of the steerer tube as it meets the top of the frame across to the centre of the seat post with it up and the tape level on the Large Vala measured exactly what the charts say 622mm , large on the Amflow measures 605mm and XL Amflow measures ironically 622mm

Also if you measure from the same centre spot on the steerer down to the centre of the crank bolt the large Vala measures 805mm and the Large Amflow 795mm with the XL at 815mm

Just measured my Large Amflow and I get around 605 top tube as well, also measure my revel rascal which on paper is 630, and that comes up about the same again at 605, so maybe I'm measuring wrong.

Who know, it's definitely a small feeling bike, but at 180cm the large suits me fine, maybe and XL would have been OK too

Spot on buddy , don’t get me wrong it’s hardly a riveting read lol but its pretty significant if your in between sizes , at 180 large would be bang on imo but if your 185 then its definitely something to take into account,
I could ride the Vala large definitely but anything smaller and it wouldn’t work for me

Don't see any sniping from either of us, just a friendly discussion, and I think we've both come the the conclusion that the Amflow does come up slightly smaller than the Geo numbers suggest

As I said I tried a xl and it didn't seem a big bike to me my levo is a medium. Only a very short ride though. Happy cycling

As a potential buyer I find this interesting.
I currently ride a large Orbea Rise (2023). I've just taken the same measurement (crank centre to top of head tube centre) and it's 795mm. On paper the geometry of the Rise and Amflow in large are practically a match.

I'm came from a large Rise, I'm 180cm and the Amflow feels very similar. Don't think the reach is in question, just the top tube measurement, try measuring that on the Rise (no longer have mine)

Effective Top Tube? Very difficult to measure and compare as the seat angle (real and effective) plays a bit part.
Where do you measure to?

All the info is in the above thread buddy as to where we have been taking the measurements.

Also reach or effective reach or tho showing the same as the rise and Vala may also be shorter than shown in the charts , going of the SC Vala with 477mm reach that seems to measure the same as its geo chart the effective reach number taken from the centre of the steerer to the centre of the crank bolt is 10mm shorter on the large Amflow than the Vala.

(Obviously this is not how the geo charts measure the reach but you can get a decent comparison measuring this way)

You may never know how they are measuring them . You would think all manufacturers/ engineers should be reading of the same page but are they .

If you find a 90' spot in a wall and run the front tire of the bike into the wall and have the bike standing up with a grip leaning against the other wall, you can measure horizontally from the wall the front tire is touching to the center of the head tube, then again to the center of the BB. Then you subtract the 2 and get the Reach. Bike specs can be pretty inaccurate ime.

Reach is still the most critical dimension for standing fit.

You need to know what saddle height manufacturers are using to create the effective seat angle as that's how the effective top tube is measured.
That's why you can't use the real seat angle (centre of the seat post measurement) to compare bikes.

None of it actually matters to me, the bike fits great, and feels pretty much identical to my Orbea rise. It 'feels' a bit smaller than my Trance X Elite, but I'm probably more comfortable on the Amflow

That’s cool John and fair play to you but hopefully the post will help anyone as I said on the fence when it comes to sizing as clearly shown the Amflow is coming up shorter than the geo charts show.

For me the Vala was my point of reference as the rise is for you. Despite what the charts show the reach on the Amflow is 10mm shorter than the Vala and the top tube measurement with both seats at the same height was 17mm shorter making it not an option for me.

Speaking to the guy who posted the video as im tempted to buy one in th new year he said they are on the small side. im 6.1 and he said go for the X large. I did noticed he fitted a 170 Zeb oversizing the fork so that will shorted the reach a tad too.

My only concern is With the post fully inserted the pedal to seat height is 905mm, I ran 890mm on my levo so the extra 15mm felt a bit off at first, I'm not stretched to the Max but it is noticeable.

I think in reality large is closer to a medium in most brands and XL is more like a large

Not really I think the XL is spot on except the shallow seat post insertion. If I could drop it 10mm it'd be spot on. Damn stumpy legs.

I regretted the S5 in the levo and actually wished I downsized but I was coming from a large norco sight vlt at the time which was a little small but had accustomed to a smaller bike.

Measuring centre of seat to top cap the S5 levo is identical to the amflow XL so the feeling of it being smaller must be in the other measurements. I didn't think the the small saving in Kgs would make a huge differnce but it makes the bike feel so much nicer to ride.
