Not really I think the XL is spot on except the shallow seat post insertion. If I could drop it 10mm it'd be spot on. Damn stumpy legs.

I regretted the S5 in the levo and actually wished I downsized but I was coming from a large norco sight vlt at the time which was a little small but had accustomed to a smaller bike.

Measuring centre of seat to top cap the S5 levo is identical to the amflow XL so the feeling of it being smaller must be in the other measurements. I didn't think the the small saving in Kgs would make a huge differnce but it makes the bike feel so much nicer to ride.
And try a real lightweight ebike (I.e 18kg or less) this makes an even greater difference ;)

Interesting to note Brian Park's (Pinkbike bossman) comment, in reference to the DJI motor,

"The motor is insane, and I cannot wait for it to get launched in a few new bikes in 2025... but it's not "motor of the year."

Did a back-to-back comparison yesterday with my son on the Focus Jam2 (with a brand new main battery), over 25 miles, only 330m vert, 99% of the ride was in Eco on both bikes.

Drained the 378Wh Focus to within 2 miles available range and the Amflow was at 44%. Given that I weigh about 12kg more than my son, and I probably used a bit more boost than him, I'd say efficiency was on a par with the Shimano system but neither noticeably better nor worse.

Did notice that the carbon bars are hard on the hands. Otherwise, still a superb bike and very happy with the purchase despite the eye-popping price of entry.

Thought you would get more than that ? . Levo battery 700 I would get 45 miles and 1000m climbing. I'm 15 and a half stone.

weigh have usually significant more impact in consuption, more than assist level .

Note that the motor of the year comment possibly refers to the article being "ebike of the year" and not "motor of the year". I don't think he was saying there is a better motor out there.

I managed over 40 miles and 2000m on the amflow over two days in wales. I’m 74kg and pretty fit and would definitely agree that weight and fitness play a massive part in any emtb range comparison.

For reference, my lightweight rise build is at 17.2kg , on the std 360 battery i managed 59 miles and 1300m, but it’s very easy to pedal with it switched off, a lot of the non climbing was spend with the motor off.

I expected these Amflow's with 800 battery to be doing about 60 miles and 2000m climbing with my weight 94 kg . Based on me getting 43 miles ish and 5000ft climbing on a 700 battery at present.

Tbh they could do, I thought I was going to charge mine overnight in wales so I went a bit boost crazy on day one…when no charging was available I had to spend day two in eco.

I'm just going by media advertising. My pal just got one 3 weeks ago. It's not the best time of year in UK to test Amflow on eco for max mileage . Enjoy it lovely bike.

I know. My point is the motor will be launched in more than need bike. Confirms, at least, the Forbidden rumours.

Delighted to keep reading How good this bike might be but I can'y buy one for love and money as not available yet in France or Switzerland. I hope their bike service is better than. their customer service in reposes to question " When available? " as the responses are more noncommittal and evasive than a UK Prime Minister at Question Time.

Brian Park just means that the category they are awarding for is not 'Motor of the Year'. It's E-bike of the year, and the Amflow is not the e-bike of the year even though he tacitly acknowledges that the DJI is the superior motor.

That’s obvious, as I said above.
The interesting part was the mention of bikes, plural, being released with the new motor.

Some of us have brands that we support and are sticking with. I won't consider an Amflow, at this time, for example. I'd maybe feel differently if I lived in steep mountains and motor performance dominated my experience, but I don't and it doesn't. In fact I would not care one iota about DJI's superior power, but for the integration/ screen/ weight/ feel/ etc. being class leading. Even when I visit the real mountains I don't care about the power that much. I mean, what do I care if I get to the top in 22 or 25 minutes instead? Also, if my dream bike was released with a Bosch Gen 5, I'd be totally fine with that.

The way forward for DJI is to ditch their competing bike and just pursue motor sales.

It's likely that Spesh & Forbidden will have DJI motored e-bikes shown at Sea Otter in April 2025, and possibly other brands too.

As far as the DJI ban, it was at least pushed off by the US Congress for this session, primarily because farmers depend on DJI drones so much.

PS. It's worth noting that Bosch will be announcing 105 NM full time power at Sea Otter 2025, or sooner. So, the Bosch will be comparable in power around when the new waves of e-bikes are released.

Just to confirm on the DJI ban. It's not been pushed back due to any farming needs any other gov use case but what will happen has now been made crystal clear.

It's now reached a new stage where it's now written into law that the US government must prove within 12 months that DJI is not a threat to US national security.

In the event this does not happen DJI get automatically banned in a year.

So just to be clear on this. If the outcome of findings is delayed or even if no investigation is performed by the US Gov they are banned.

The default stance now is that they must be proven to be safe otherwise the FCC ban will automatically kick in.

The actual affect on this on the Avinox is potentially less than the drones as a workaroundable is DJI could sell a non wireless version of Avinox that would not require FCC certification.

However this all could change with the change of leadership.

It's being played somewhat as a repeive however it's also now set in stone and the real risk now is posturing by government agencys will results in the ban happening with no one agency having to take the blame.

It's a major issue for the drone industry I'm part of but as said less so for Avinox and DJI consumer goods as they can just remove the wireless functionally.

Tbh Avinox should be able to find a path though even if the worst would happen. You would just loose the WiFi and BT functionality at worst. This would not affect existing sold products either. Look forward to the usb port on the side lol.

On this is it expected to be a new motor or software updates to the Smart system? .

Something iv picked up in a number os people's posts is the DJI power delivery is better as is overrun at the speed limit. This is something Bosch could tune in an update.

I think DJI are exactly doing this - I'd be surprised if you could still buy an Amflow in 2 years.

As for the Bosch fantasy-update - what evidence is there of this other than one brand owner dropping it in a podcast? If they had the tech available, why not release it already? They'd just just losing sales by delaying in this competitive environment, which would be uncommercial (I would have bought a Vala instead of the Amflow I picked up yesterday).

Forbidden will be releasing their bike with the Avinox motor in the spring. I’ve seen some pics of it already, it’s basically the dreadnought with a motor.
Unfortunately it will be specd with the desaster 600 Wh battery.. So it is out of the Game
