You can drive your ev and try every single think to save this planet , problem is its a ticking timebomb waiting for whichever other despot is ready to push a button , i doubt very much that the amount of things we have all done this year to mitigate climates will be a drop in the pool in comparison to how much has been blown up and burned
The fire in the living room is spreading to the curtains so there's no point trying to put out the one in the kitchen right?

Thanks, corrected. I realised I was looking at a review for a rr sl. Time to find some more reviews.

Btw, do you have a XL and take cyclescheme?
Hi, by all means get in touch if you like and we will try to find an XL. The Crafty range is due to be updated shortly so the stock is very limited hence some of the pricing available

On topic, depending on your viewpoint prices of bikes are either very keen at the moment or merely coming back nearer where they need to be. So if you plan to enjoy, ride and keep it for a while now is a great time to find something nice. But I wouldn’t buy a bike thinking it will hold nearly all its value like during the Covid scenario. It’s certainly a different market. This is also the case with cars, camper vans and many other things at the moment . Main thing is to get something you like and go enjoy it!

Any idea roughly when the updated bikes are out? Also i don't suppose you know if the new Crafty will be a mullet or at least have a flip chip?

Hi, new models are October on. It’s still 29 wheels. Different rear shock placement and new frame set with carbon. Removable battery. Latest Bosch gen 5 motor. Current frame continues as ‘a single ‘ base ‘ model but updated with the Bosch Gen 4 Race motor .

@mmcengineer, did you read my previous message in its entirety? I wrote very similar things, but with a slightly different ending.

And do not forget that EVs in a densely populated area like a European city, improve the air quality a lot and reduce noise pollution.

So I do not find anything funny about people moving to a (small, possibly) EV. That's what I wanted to say.
I dont find it funny that people would rather watch the world burn but it is what it is , lemmings are going lemming doesnt matter how pious i am in my beliefs

I made this to discuss how much ebikes are devaluing and so far everyones like "i buy my emtb to ride it" thats great...we all do that. However spending top dollar on something that is worth quarter the price in one year is disheartening!
Perhaps trail running might be a better sport for you. Wear a pair of trail shoes till they have holes in them and no one wants them. Then buy a new pair and repeat. 🤣

Right now the big bike companies, and probably the small ones too, are completely manipulating the market. I won’t go into details, because my family owns a bike shop. But yeah, it’s happening. Things aren’t exactly how they are being portrayed in the bike industry.

Surely trail shoes devalue even faster than e-bikes? No one’s going to want to buy a pair of shoes that have been run in a few times 🤮

You say that, but there's often people selling well used bike shoes in the classifieds here... and at decent money too.
I'm not sure if anyone buys them though 😂

The whole industry is doing everything they can to run their inventory levels into the ground so they can induce a controlled shortage to get prices back up to where they need them to be. My mate owns one of the biggest shops in town where I’m originally from, he was giving me the low down. He said they were even being transparent about it with the dealers.

The economics of an EMTB are complex.

I am sure many of you have run a marathon or ultra in the past and know that running shoes typically last about 600 km and 6 months. For someone who trains seriously, this means at least 300 €/year. This is still little money compared to the depreciation and running cost of a good electric bike.

But also if someone, like me, uses it to save even 100 km/week (or 5,000 km/year) of his private car - unless he doesn't need to own one anyway - it means he has saved a few hundred euros a year between gas and maintenance. Hard to estimate, depending on the car and a multitude of factors (but excluding depreciation) no more and probably much less than 1000 Euros.

Again, I prefer to think of my emtb as leisure time, as the money I spend on travel, rather than as an investment.

You can't resell your "used" holiday.

I feel as though the tech has gotten good enough on emtbs now not to worry too much about tech progression.

Mid power is more than enough for me. So improvement here is a bit irrelevant to me. Noise on mid power is very low. Power delivery very natural.

Battery power is more than enough for me. I get 40 kms with mid/strong assist and 60 kms with the range extender. I do not want to ride further.

Weight is an interesting one now. At 18 kgs with the weight nicely centered low at the bottom bracket it's so planted but still agile. I'm not sure I want it lighter.

Price I'd prefer lower, but that doesn't happen with the next model. I did wait for a sale though and got 20% off plus a free range extender (levo sl). Probs means new models coming but this has everything I want/need.

End of the day we are alive in the year 2024 and emtbs exist and are among the most effing awesome things on the planet right now (imo), so I'd be kicking myself to miss the opportunity!

I totally agree with this.

When I bought mine I defined my requirements, saw what was available here, contacted a couple of stores, negotiated a bit (but not even that much) and paid what there was to pay. After that I thought no more about it.

Frankly speaking I am not obsessed about money.

Companies are selling bikes at a huge loss to manage their inventory. The is no way that this is sustainable so yes they are reducing their forecasts to be "safe".

But to imply that there is a cartel and the big (or all) manufacturers are collaborating to artificially inflate prices is crazy.

another example of a insane deal!

Canyon Spectral ON £3900

I have no intention on selling my current bikes, got these discounted as framesets and theyre both awesome rigs. I got my stumpy frame from one the spanish suppliers for over half the price.

I would imagine the Bosch motored bikes are being sold off cheap as their new models will use the gen 5 motor.

The bicycle market, for many of the reasons already stated is in a state of flux.

Yup Covid19, big demand combined with short supply - followed by a slump, recent high inflation, austerity and high borrowing rates have all had their impact.

Lots of other goods and products are affected. For example, I paid a visit to my local motorcycle dealer to get my bike serviced and a new set of tyres………

Aside from the ridiculous increase in the price of motorcycle tyres, the dealer told me that they are still shifting new stock just not quite as rapidly as before. But what they struggle to do is sell second-hand stock. So much so, that they are not looking for used stock as they don’t know where to put all the stock they have. They can’t just automatically shift stock to the usual nationwide online used dealers as they have suddenly become selective of what they purchase. So used prices are tumbling and dealers are very nervous and worried just now.

It had probably been clocked (mileage reduced).

Stuff still gets clocked but not quite as much as it used to. And if you are buying a used car of a certain age, always check the milage against the MOT history.

Generally just high end stuff now. Assume any <3yo supercar has been clocked

Absolutely, they say the most clocked car is the Porsche 911.

And if you are in the market for such a car you may want to get the milage checked by a trusted dealer or specialist. Thankfully it is getting increasingly harder to adjust mileages without leaving finger prints. Just like the dudes that tell you that their performance maps are undetectable, well the milage adjustments sharks will tell you that their adjustments cannot be detected – but it can pretty much always be seen with the right software.

Looks like we're exiting the Holocene interglacial period, seems likely that humankind's CO2 reduction strategies will do little or nothing to affect associated climate change.

Reminds me of Lucidity by Kinobe.

"I view the earth as a living organism. Now it’s very difficult for normal people to view the earth as alive. Let’s say you were interviewing a butterfly — or a Mayfly.

A Mayfly lives for four or five days. Say that Mayfly was standing on the branch of a giant Sequoia tree in California, which lives for thousands of years. If you were to ask that Mayfly, “Do you perceive this branch that you are standing on as being alive?” The Mayfly would say, “Of course not. I’ve been here my entire life, four days, and the branch hasn’t done a doggone thing.”

Yet when you look at the tree in our context, it is very much alive. It started with a seed, and it grew. Well, the earth is very much like that tree, and mankind is very much like that Mayfly. If we are lucky, we will live a hundred years.

We are standing on a planet that was born four and a half billion years ago. It looked very different when it was born; it evolved and has changed. Africa used to be just outside the window here. Morocco was connected to Cape Cod. Beneath this building are rocks from Africa. It’s hard to imagine that..

But if you were to sit on the moon, and look at the earth and blink your eyes once every million years, it would come blossoming to life."

I have accepted the situation. Bought my bike at the height of covid prices. Realized then that I won't get much for it. Decided for some sweet upgrades instead of a new bike. Current bikes really do not offer anything ground breaking anyway.

Lets see how the market is in two years. Hopefully used are even cheaper Looking for some low mileage bike at 1/3 of the cost of a new bike.

mmm, and they never have explained why when their chart of global temperatures and Co2 levels that was used to show increased Co2 caused global warming...................was re examined by mathematicians and statisticians ( instead of scientists) and the data placed on properly proportioned X and Y axis, Co2 increases FOLLOWED global temperature increase....not the other way a round!!
