Folks from USA can’t get the E10, so I thought my next best option is the E05. I pulled the trigger mid-July and got the frame and the rest of the stuff 5-6 weeks later. I like the look of UD carbon fiber, so I thought I’d leave it but when I saw it, it’s apparent it needed some cover. Heard good things about Montana Gold (they suck, stick with Rust-Oleum or Krylon) so I got a couple of cans and a few Spray Max 2k. I used Spray Max before and I can tell, they’ve been better.
A few rants about the frame: Plenty of sharp edges, quite a bit of unbonded carbon fiber on the inside. The seat stay is so thin, I seriously doubt it will survive any jumps. The 2-piece that locks the battery in place is plastic. Would be nice if these were aluminum. I filed some of the sharp edges and put mastic tape on the others.
On the bright side, motor fit is great. There’s a channel for the cables to run through - I’m on the fence on this one as it did make the installation a bit more complicated than necessary. If I saw the LightCarbon LCS004 first, I would have went with it. Maybe Dengfu makes great E10s because they have contract with Luna, but E05 definitely leaves a lot to be desired.
It took me a day to design and cut the stencils and sand the frame. Painted the base coat, remove the stencil an hour later, waited at least 24 hours to wet sand, then put on 3 layers of 2k clear gloss. I waited 3 days to wet sand, compound and polish. Took me a day to put together yesterday and I torqued it to specs and took it out on a short 10-mile test ride today, which used up 8% of the battery. It was really nice, no clik-clak, no creaks, no cracks (so far). I still need to tune the 160mm Lyric RC3 fork and the 185x55 Super Deluxe Select shocks. Typical complaints about the motor, which you’ve all heard, so not gonna repeat it. I wish it could be tuned like the BBSxx motors. It has the plastic gear, I was hoping for a metal gear.
