Almost the entire EWS-E podium was made up of Bosch riders.

Can others really compete in the outright power stages?


Seems Bosch are on a home run with this Gen4

Since by law all ebike motors are limited to the same max power, surely this must be a coincidence...

Surely if all the bikes are the same then its down to the skill of the rider not the machinery ??formula 1 should take note it makes it a fair competition not a procession

Bosch is the only motor that will make it round without a fault .

But they are not. They have different motors. Exactly like f1.

Hence the difference in performance.

The purist cyclist won’t like it because it comes down to the motor and not the rider….

The petrol heads will, cause they see racing as a test bed for raising the bar on performance.

Either way…. Bosch seem to be the go to right now ??

The new 2022 Scott Patron, Bosch Smart control and included organ ? keys, C, D and A are included free on every bike. Apparently you can play the riff from smells like teen spirit with the correct key combos

How much of that is to do with the fact that all the big teams are running Bosch? There weren't many riders riding other motors. That could be because the big teams know which is the best motor to use or it could be because manufacturers with other motors didn't put a big team forward.

Also, the guy who came 2nd in the power stage (the only section where the motor is likely to influence results) was not on a Bosch

However, it was unsurprising to hear that the only female rider on Specialised has issues with her drive unit!

Much as I love Bosch though, I think it's more about the French riders dominating, rather than the motor.

If it spurs on e-bike development and acceptance, I'm all for it. Frankly, I'm more interested in it than the non-e disciplines, but of course I'm biased.

These suspension lockouts would be a major turn off for me. Something else to maintain and get in the way that I'd just never have a need for.
I guess, some people feel guilty about ebiking and like to torture themselves in eco paying homage to the analog MTB for some bizarre reason. Maybe they have a use for it.

Not my style at all though, I'll have as much acceleration as possible thanks...

Yeah. He was on a motor with even more torque than the Bosch. (105Nm IIRC)
Funnily enough he didn't even trouble the top 30 in any other stage

Get rid of the power stage and it instantly becomes a lot fairer competition

How much of the overall result is down to hill climbing ? Bikes best at climbing aren’t necessarily best for descending, bet those on longer CS bikes went better uphill.

seems you need to be French to win too…

DH is more about bike kinematic and rider ability at the discipline of DH. Less about which motor. DH it’s a lump of weight. Ok the weight distribution will have some effect with designs that place the battery lower. Although most mainstream designs try to achieve this now. Lapierre probably done the best job with where the battery is placed. Very low.

if it’s just about using the motor to get in more scored DH runs in a day then those best at DH will do best.

DH pedalling prowess is probably why you still see Tracy and Nico on the stands.

id also guess the top riders have been sniffled by top Ebike manufacturers and that the Bosch motor element is more coincidence than outright performance gain. Reliability is key; if your motor breaks its game over pedalling a lump of 24kg iron around the Alps. on this note I’m amazed how Lapierre seem to build bikes for competing that don’t fall apart in the downhill section.

if you get rid of the power stage just get rid of the motor and call it an EWS …
