Whilst I actually agree with you on the pricing point, the halo stuff is always going to be eye wateringly expensive, lets see what happens with the rest of the range.

Regarding the whole thing with R&D - perhaps they should have spent a bit more, given the extraordinary levels of motor failures they have been through. It's unheard of for a manufacturer to retrospectively double a warranty period due to the number of failures they have had.

I'll be patiently waiting for the Expert or metal models to come out, as I quite like the idea of a motorized version of my '21 Stumpy Evo. But not for £10+k.

You mean like Porsche having to replace every $50K motor in the 2014-15 GT3's and then extend the warranties to 10 year 120K mile? It is not unheard of at all.

Are you a Specialized shill like everyone on youtube? People are not "losing their minds", just merely expressing the quite correct outrage that an electric bike is the price as a Vauxhall Corsa....what are you getting for your money exactly?

First off you say people are not losing their minds, but then you use the term outrage. Outrage over the price of a bike that they don't have to buy and has no affect on their life is pathetic. What they are really trying to say is they are upset and jealous that they can't afford one, because if the price were lower it would be in their garage today. If you are driving a Vauxhall Corsa or even comparing the price to a car, you are not the target market.

For your money you are getting the best range, best display setup, most natural feel, most flexible motor setup, most flexible geometry setup, etc, etc.

BTW I personally didn't see the value in the SWorks version so passed on buying one yesterday. Two of my friends did buy them, Are they idiots? No, they wanted AXS a 700 wHr battery and geometry similar to their analog bikes.

The price is over engineered never mind the bike, 13k for a bike, you need your head examined paying that much, what the hell was specialized thinking.
For some of us, money is not a consideration. Quite frankly I like having the option of purchasing a high-end emtb. Its fun to be able to try out new technology on the toys we like to play with. Will be interested to see how this compares to the YT DECOY Elite. Been contemplating adding the new Canyon Torque On to mt stable. For some unknown reason, Canyon does not sale the 9.0 model in the US.

...I also raised the front end with a riser bar and an additional stem spacer....that may be personal fit but it certainly helped centre me more on the bike....

So in summary.......I may try a mullet set up just to get more manoeuvrability. c£350 for wheel and tyre is doable.

I moved on from my Levo, but a riser bar is a great idea for some, which would have included me: wish I’d thought of that.

As for Mullet, many, including @robrides have said it’s an improvement if you pick the right tyre diameter and flip the chip correctly. My new ride is Mullet and I’m pleased — can’t compare as didn’t Mullet my Levo.

you know how specialized targets their marks, i mean suckers, i mean fanboys. They release something cutting edge and at the time people are willing to pay. When the 2019 levo came out it had the 700 w battery, i couldn't resist. When the SL came out it was 36 lbs. Just wait a year or two and there will be something pretty cool from some other brand for half the price.

Don't know what you mean, now where is my iPhone 12 Pro Max? ?

It is obvious why Specialized first announced the most expensive models. Due to the shortage of components, they were first put on more expensive models. More profit.

But they’re not all the same components. It’s pretty likely the affordable class of components which is most popular around the world, and is what class the vast amount of components are, and are more likely to have been hindered by the pandemic. The top components are maybe more available.

Components in the battery, motor and TCU will be shared across the range though. Only takes an issue with one to limit the launch.

The Scandinavian EMTB guy said the Gen 3 Levo felt very similar to ride to the Merida E160!

The changes I made to my Levo Comp ( !60mm fork with no sit down/riser bars/additional spacer under the stem) did require a little adjustment of riding position for optimum climbing but not huge. It still climbs better seated but with the saddle half slammed and me perched on the nose of the saddle ( I left the flip chip in the low position). I can imagine it would not take a lot more to mean having to lean over the bars to keep the front down.......and probably lose rear wheel traction as a result!

So if I went mullet I think I would go to high on the flip chip.

I have no doubt Specialized's ability to understand the issue fully a lot earlier were hampered by the fact that warranty motor returns were dealt with by Brose rather than Specialized. I think it is feasible that there was mis-diagnosis by LBS in some cases. It also seems likely that warranty return motors were recycled when Brose fixed the symptom ( e.g broken or damaged belt) rather than the cause or causes. Hence repeat failures.

We can only guess at what went on behind the scenes but I would guess a major review was initiated...........a review possibly reinforced by Specialized's decision to use a different motor for the SL launch developed with Mahle.
The resultant revisions included new seals, uprated sprag bearings and an uprated belt...........water ingress and sprag bearing failures being the root cause of most issues I reckon. It also included a software update said to remove power spikes that were potentially damaging to the motor albeit not noticeable to the rider. That sounds like a partial concession to Brose by Specialized to me!

With the additional protection for the charger plug and an IP rated TCU, added to the motor upgrades, it does sound to me like previous problems have been resolved. Time will tell of course.

Did they fix the motor issue on the 2.1? i dont think so they are still failing and as for the new plastic charger flap it might improve the IP but its still going to crack when it hits a blade of Grass. I love my Kenevo (2nd Gen) but lets face it the quality is poor and Specialized response to their failings is worse in fact what is the response ah yeh a price increase. Jesus id pay it if it would garentee reliability. PS i should be out on my bike but it dosent work!
