I'm stumped on how to proceed here. From what I can tell I need to remove the chain ring and place the new one on the hub thing (spider?), but the bolts just spin. How do I get my new chain ring on the bike?
It looks like they took a look at the e-bike market from an external perspective, recognized all the problems, and tried to address them.
It would be weird if a company that did that didn't consider the demands placed on an e-bike motor with all the issues the legacy ones have had.
Doesn't...
Who is Jonesy?
I'm somewhat skeptical they'll ban DJI drones. They have so much market dominance and lots of people would be very pissed. IMO it's political saber rattling.
Well the motor is actually lighter than any comparable power motor, and the battery is denser than any but a handful of modern cell packs on the market.
You're right though that those don't get it from ~25kg to ~20kg on their own.
IMO mostly yes. Only the drivetrain is under real additional...
He definitely got more in depth about the bike as a bike. Clearly it isn't some magical fairy bike that is the best at everything. It's a trail bike, and that means there are things it doesn't handle very well.
How is it not relevant? To charge a battery of twice the size in the same amount of time you need to pump twice the amps which requires more cooling, thicker wires, beefier charger, etc.
"additional transmission losses"
I forget where I saw this, so take it with a grain of salt, but a gearbox doesn't necessarily underperform a chain in real world conditions. A clean, well lubed chain? Yep, it wins. But what about a chain that's all mucked up from being ridden? Belts self clean.
