Newbie to forum, sharing an inconvenient truth about the e-mtb industry, specifically specialized

I’m not sure we should try to put e-bikes in a different category to any other electrical appliance we buy. Try getting warranty on a 5 year old kitchen appliance and see how far you get. Your 5 year old washing machine can be repaired, but just like an e-bike it might need a motor...

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

Not on my black Specialized App, for my Gen 1 SL? I’ve also got a Turbo Levo Gen 3, and that does have the 80% option, on the same App, the only SL option is to whether you discharge the range extender battery first. The SL has up to date firmware etc.

Levo Gen 3 Levo Gen 4 2024 Rumours... And assorted random chat ....

Seems lots of threads are turning into ‘but Avinox’ threads now, but seeing the Transmission one flare up again is a surprise! I think what you say here is spot on, and is in line with my thinking as well. I love the headline power and torque figures of the Avinox but I’m a trail rider, and...

Vitus E-Mythique LT Enduro EMTB - Bargain of the year

Yes, good for RC stuff, they’re my most used connector on my flying and driving models, but the only place I’ve seen them on e-bikes is on conversion kits and Chinese batteries. I think at the least they should use something a bit more long term moisture resistant given it’s a bicycle and will...

It wouldn’t be a big stretch for a manufacturer to adapt the frame to take the Avinox motor, battery and controller either hydro form or carbon layup? Costly, yes, but done in conjunction with a model year refresh would be the most sensible time to do it. I can’t see Bosch et al taking it...

Battery bank for lights in the frame?

That’s fair enough, can’t see a problem if you’ve got space in the frame somewhere and the lights are happy being externally powered despite the internal battery?

Battery bank for lights in the frame?

If your bike lights allow being charged externally whilst being switched on, then they’ll have been designed to do so and no worries there. It’s probably more convenient to charge them from an external battery pack attached to the top tube or similar though, rather than keep removing a pack...

Vitus E-Mythique LT Enduro EMTB - Bargain of the year

Thanks for the look inside, look like decent Samsung cells, same as in a lot of higher end garden tool power packs, although I always frown when I see an XT60 connector, good as they are at handling high current they aren’t moisture or vibration resistant etc.

Levo SL Gen 1 New Motors Calibrated?

Has anybody purchased a new off the shelf SL1.1 motor, ie not a warranty replacement? Whilst my current motor is still running fine, if I purchased a new retail motor from a bike shop, would it be fully ready to go once fitted or would it need calibrating by a dealer? It would be a...

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

Not on the Levo SL Gen 1 that mine is, I did say it was 4 years old.

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

Could be due to the bikes motor etc having bedded in, less mechanical resistance? Maybe you’ve got fitter?! Battery capacity actually varies with temperature anyway, in cold weather at 100% charge a Li-Ion battery will hold less energy, in warmer climes more. You’ve actually demonstrated...

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

Unless you can get hold of the design spec of the battery pack, it’s hard to say, but it could be that your battery is actually a bit bigger than the advertised capacity, and the BMS will report 100% until it drops below the ‘reserve’ it had designed in. It’s common in higher end battery packs...

Do's and Don'ts for e-bike battery care. What do you do to keep your battery performing at its best?

The only verifiable fact out there is that batteries degrade, no matter what you do with them. The speed at which that happens depends on battery chemistry, battery management systems, cycles, temperature, charge levels, and a multitude of other factors. Whether that even matters to how you use...

My 2023 Gen 3 Levo Comp Alloy with 10k kilometers or 6,375miles

132 charge cycles is nothing for a battery, these things are rated for 500 if I remember rightly?

There seems to be a bit of confusion around who your contract is with when you buy an e-bike. It’s the retailer, not Amflow, not DJI, not the manufacturer of the battery cells etc. Those relationships are between them and the dealer you’re buying from. DJI are vertically integrated with...

I wish the black Pro was £5999! 😂 I had the email as well, I suppose like everybody who registered interest, but I’m going to change the habit of a lifetime and wait for a test ride and some more long term reviews. I was also out on my 70Nm Shimano E8000 yesterday, made me wonder why I needed...

Nice to notice you about the place again Zim! You made me laugh actually, I have a mate who uses the term Doris, and he’s a top fella! As for working out, you thought about setting up an Only Fans channel?

I seem to remember reading in e-mountainbike magazine that e-bike motors were developed on the back of washing machine/dryer motors. How true that is I don’t know, but electric motors are not exactly new, and over the years have got smaller and more powerful. Shame water sealing hasn’t...
