I have a thread running in the Whyte forum, but I thought I'd put it here too as perhaps my experience with the Bosch gen 4 motor is not bike brand specific.
Basically, I have a new Whyte e150 RS. Lovely bike. It's my first eMTB. I have no prior experience!
I was aware of the 16mph limit of...
Just digging around on info for this motor, and I find this "The motor has almost no internal resistance, which should eliminate the draggy feel of the previous model when pedalling above the 25km/h cut-off. "
on this page: Bosch E-bike Systems 2020 – The Gen 4 Motor is no longer a rumour!
To...
Have you spoken to your bike shop about it? I haven’t yet, but I might give them a call.
im just really surprised that more people aren’t complaining about this. I wonder if it is the Bosch’s motor itself or the Whyte bike? I might investigate other bikes that use the same motor andpost a...
With work and holidays I’ve only managed two very modest local rides so far. Generally speaking, it’s awesome. Looking forward to taking it further afield with some proper hills (not much around Oxford!).
The one concern I do have is the cut out of the motor at 16.6mph. Once I hit that (which is...
I've now built a mini kit that is strapped to the bike. A Dakine valcro attatched under the top tube in front of the shock, a couple of CO2 cartridges, a Lezyne CO2 pump, noodles with needle/punch thing and a mini bike tool. Reasonably neat. Will need to try it out on a trail to see if it stays...
Yep - just something to get used to. An XL bike with 29" wheels and over double the weight of my other bike will take some new muscle memory (and muscle!).
Collected today from the bike shop and have only zipped about the back of my house for half an hour.
In a word.
“wow”.
I had no idea they had the kick that they do, even in emtb mode.
First impressions are very good.
a couple of things I need to get used to: the cut off of the motor at 16mph...
I guess I was just a bit naïve and assumed the BB was independent somehow, or just a consumer-replaceable item that could be swapped quite easily when necessary.
Mmm. I was just about to ask this question, but found this thread.
To clarify, there is no separate, replaceable bottom bracket on an eMTB, correct? If you hear/feel grinding/looseness/anything weird (that for a normal mountain bike could be solved by simply replacing the BB), you'd need to get...
Another useful analogy (or is it a simile?) is when we all buy a new shiny iPhone, or (Spit-The-Dog spit!) an Android-thing. The first thing we do is buy a hulking plastic protective case and cover the beautifully and carefully designed object we were in amour of in the first place!
Humans. So...
I think my other issue with wrapping frames (which I am committed to now having ordered the product and instructed the bike shop!) is that you never actually see your own bike in all it's glory. Its always covered in a plastic film that will presumably start to look crap after a few rides.
At...
It's done. After several weeks of dithering, and several years of dissing them with my mates, I've settled on a Whyte e150RS.
My title asks "Have I gone soft?".
I have asked the bike shop to apply Invisiframe. I've never bothered with that sort of thing before. (OK, I lie. I sometimes put...
