Here's another specific suggestion and link. Halfords/Voodoo. The Voodoo range is generally great value for money.
Voodoo Bizango Electric Mountain Bike - 17", 19", 21" Frames
Keys I have to carry on a typical day: Shed key; Shed chain; Shed dlock; Tern GSD battery lock 1; Tern GSD battery lock 2 (why aren't they key'ed alike?!?!); Work dlock 1; Work dlock2; Light chain key.
I now split my bike keys across 3 keyrings, plus house keys, just so Im not carrying a fist...
How do you like your battery to be secured? Whether internally or externally mounted, it seems to me the most important question is how you get it off the frame.
For me, I do long distance rides and also commute on my hard tail. I like the security of a lock when I leave the bike unattended...
I noticed that too... Not like EMBN to leak news... I've not heard the use of generation numbers WRT Bosch motors. I did wonder whether he was maybe referring to the newer Active Line motors, as those are currently the latest gen?
How serviceable is the Brose?
I spent a lot of time looking in to servicing/maintaining the Bosch CX, and now they've released the DIY (or LBS) main bearing kit, I trust that I'll be able to keep it going for longer.
If water ingress is a thing on the Brose, apart from avoiding jet washing...
Welcome!
Yeah, I like the look of several direct bikes - Vitus, Commencal, YT - but I promised myself I'd buy my next ebike from a shop, just for the support... Even Evans is a better choice for me as at least (for now) there's a store up the road in Bristol.
This is the myth everyone has heard. At best it means its sealed TO YOU for life. But not to Bosch or the LBS who have to replace them when theyre not maintained.
I should be clear: Replacing the seal and grease does not involve going inside the motor. Don't go there. Its all reachable...
They told you not to grease behind the drive side seal yourself?!?!?
I do get the impression Bosch expects you to take the bike in to your LBS for servicing every 6 months. But seeing as they sell replacement seals and grease, I'd be surprised if they didn't expect customers to do it themselves.
The Secret Bosch Manual says you should avoid heavy soaking the drive side of the motor (it has a low IPX water-proof-ness rating), and it states you should re-grease the seal behind the chain-ring.
I'm interested whether most of the failures we are experiencing are down to most people not...
Cafe? I'd take the 4-amp charger and just have a loooong lunch break while I refill the battery. That should give you at least a 25% boost.
I've done a few all-dayers where I've stopped for brunch, lunch and a snack, recharging each time.
Agreed. Being on an ebike, the number of gears is not so important because the motor does compensate for the effort you would otherwise feel when you're 'not quite in the right gear'. I shift way way less often on my ebike than my normal bike. Seriously, I almost feel like having 11 gears is an...
Q. "My fear is topping out at 25km/h on a gentle 2km long slope and not having a gear high enough to continue accelerating after motor cutoff due to friction."
The smallest sprocket on NX is 11 teeth. This is also the case for all Shimano 10/11 speed systems, I believe. If you spend more on...
I have similar needs right now too.
Based on my own research (and experience with my current eMTB), the main question is how are you towing your child? Right now I am using a Follow Me. This requires my bike to have a QR rear hub, non-boost, and the tire clearance limits me to 2.4" tires...
