I have the Shimano and a Scott with the new gen 4, both my Son and I both prefer the Shimano motor for power delivery.
However i never use it in boost, mostly eco and trail.
In Australia the founder edition is $26,500 Aud my comp carbon was $11,200 I put AXS shifting and seat post Code RSC brakes. Still running standard forks and shock but may look at them later if I find them an issue.

I bought the comp carbon, and have replaced the brakes rear mech and seatpost. It’s a really good bike to ride and pedals easy with the motor off or past support, it really is like a normal mountain bike with e support.
and a couple of days ago put carbon wheels on it.
The e120 900e is 22.4kg stock, it would not be possible to get that below 20kg without spending a significant amount of money, if at all.
The SL is quite different to ride and nowhere near as powerful as a full ebike, but it still a really good bike and great to ride. The components it comes...
The 29 front and 27 rear makes it handle really good, the problem you are facing is the previous model was such good value nothing is going to match it at that price point.

I agree at 12k it’s a tough sell especially for the Merida brand, although it has the best components money can buy. Compared to my LEvo carbon SL which came with some very ordinary components it’s not expensive really.

Agree the price of the older one was probably the best value for money ebike available based on its components.
I wanted a internal battery, Carbon fibre and a 29inch wheels, the mullet is perfect so am ok with just a front 29, the new bike handles really well I really like it.

I have 2 Ebikes a 2020 Merida 160 and a LEvo SL I would not need anything else for any type of Riding they are both great.
if I had too choose 1 it would be the SL as I mostly ride with none Ebikers.
