Thanks @Tubby G and also your5 charming wife/partner Louise (that's her in the picture, not me!) :)
What's missing from the picture is the steep climb-out that Louise did very successfully.
I don't believe that we have anything as vicious looking as that in the UK. The closest I can think of is Pyracantha. It's a fast-growing shrub that does well against walls and I installed for anti-burglar duties. It is vicious stuff. I was warning my builder that you only had to point at it to...
@O'l Timer I am not suggesting that the internal tyre diameter (at the bead) varies, well not by much. But the outside diameter seems to vary a lot. Some tyres adopt a balloon shape and therefore measure bigger, some adopt a flatter profile; and of course the tread will have an impact (think big...
@O'l Timer I have read that some brands vary in their claims about width, which is why the reviewers measure the width to check. So it must be a thing.
Diameters are something else, in that it seldom gets a mention.
It doesn't seem that long ago since 27.5" wheels were taking over from 26ers...
I have the previous motor (EP8) and it has been quiet and smooth over the last 2200 miles. It is not silent, but there is no way it could be described as "noisy and clanky", except I suppose if it was someone's' first ebike. :)
Edit Aug'24: Now almost 3200 miles and still smooth and quiet.
When I have to make a binary decision, and I have tried all the usual rational methods of decision making yet still can't decide, this one never fails.
Assign the Vitus to one side of a coin, the Canyon to the other. Thumb toss the coin high and catch it (no peaking). Decide in advance whether...
Stick with the Vitus, it is still good for all the reasons that you chose it. People make a fuss about Shimano motors. But personally, I haven't had a minute's bother with either the e8000 or the EP8.
Generally, there will always be a better bike out there, a better deal that "if only I'd...
The worst of all is sheep shit that has been laid for a while and gone green on the inside. That washes/scrubs off OK, but actually stains the rubber on the tyres! It will not wash off with anything I have dared to use.
The only thing that shifts it is abrasion, so it's a good job that I...
Grandads and their grandkids!
I'm the same with my grandson (he is currently riding about on an Orange Five Pro). I try to be the same with my granddaughter, but she never feels at home on a bike! :(
So, I bought her a sewing machine. And before the accusations of sexism start, it was...
They alter the shape of the spring curve. See this:

It is free and not dodgy. Go to page 16 for the answers you need.
The saddle won't go very high. (The seat post is very short due to the kinked seat tube).
My standard riding position is with the saddle at the same height as the bars, that saddle won't come close.
Even if a longer seat tube or a dropper was fitted, the drop would be small.
I too wear varifocal specs, but I order my Oakley lenses with single vision. Not only is it cheaper but I don't actually need the short distance part of the lenses when riding my bike.
Go for the Bell Super 3r. (Like the one I'm wearing in my sig). The chin bar can be removed and it still looks great. Because I already had a FF I bought my Bell Super 3 without the chin bar. I doubt that you will wear the chin bar very often, but it's good to know that if you go somewhere a bit...
I see your mud and raise it with mine.
I had to stop because the mud on the tyre was being shaped by the seat stays and I was concerned that I might wear away the paint. I got rid of most of it with a stick (helpfully provided in the mud - see behind the seat tube). But 200 yards further on, I...
I have had an e8000 and an EP8, have gone through 4 British winters and wash my bike regularly without taking any precautions to avoid water getting into the battery. OK, I don't jetwash it, don't even use a hose, just a bucket of hot soapy water and watering can (cold water). Also, I don't tip...
