I may be wrong but I believe the cubes steering lock is built into the headset a bit like the image below, so if thats the case whats possibly happened is your headset cup gas slipped round in the frame a bit.
Not an actual Cube headset, but I believe the Cube has something similar
Had mine apart today actually, so yeah hold the black bolt in your hand, slide the silver bush on to it, then slide the washer on so it's cone mates into the silver bush you just put on, then slide the whole lot into your frame and shock.
You probably already know but you'll want threadlocker...
I wonder if Cube bother using carbon gripper paste when assembling the bikes initially. My '20 Cube that I bought 2nd hand had a creaking/knocking headset so I bought a new headset and used gripper paste on the cups where they insert into the frame and that solved it. Wondering if I need to...
Just had error 11000 on a brand new '23 Cube Stereo 160 that's only done 16 miles. The error popped up mid ride after I switched the bike off for a rest, when I turned it on the error was there, I pressed 'ok' to acknowledge it and the bike rode as per normal and looked like this on the Flow...
Nah I'm pretty stoked tbh, I've not treated myself to a new MTB for many years 😁 I currently have the 2020 version of the same bike and really like the simplicity of the Purion display and the fact it doesn't have a steering lock but that's just minor gripes, I'll get used to it.
Looking...
2023 Stereo 160 Hybrid (Size: Medium, Colour: Carbon), literally just picked it up from the shop, haven't even fitted pedals yet.
I pre-ordered it back in January and have apparently been #1 in the queue for this size and colour since then. It kept getting pushed back and last I heard it was...
I'm after a wall mounted workshop stand that will take the weight of an EMTB comfortably. My current cheapo floor workstand was fone for my normal MTB but using it with the EMTB is a real balancing act because it simply can't deal with the weight. Was looking at this maybe but it does look like...
The reach is definitely an issue with Cube, the Medium is a bit short compared to most bikes. On my '20 I have the saddle all the way back and some riser bars that I've rolled forward a tiny bit as well.
Seems a bit pointless that they've increased the reach by 10mm on the Mediums for '22 & '23...
I've not been able to find any deals on new or used '22 bikes myself. The reason I didn't get a new '22 one last year because I don't really like any of the colorways.
The Whyte e-160S looked like it would have been perfect (albeit more expensive) but from what I can see with the '23 bikes...
I want to treat myself to a brand new long ish travel trail bike because I've been riding MTB for 27 years but not actually bought many brand new bikes.
Trail mainly, nothing too slack because I like playful riding, not just plowing through/down/over stuff etc And I like to be able to wheelie...
I couldn't find anything to be at fault in the end, I checked the cranks for flat on a granite table at work and from what I can tell the motor is straight and all the mounting bolts are torqued up so shimming it was the only thing I could do, it's only 1mm so not going to cause any issues.
I made a 1mm thick stainless steel shim to 'fix' this in the end.
I made 2 shims so if 1mm isn't enough then I can double up to 2mm.
And a bit of 3M carbon to hide the scratch in the paint.
