The only thing non standard on my Merida is the motor bash guard. This does give it great rock strike protection and keeps some mud off but apart from that I’ve not done anything.
I swapped one of my spare motors to make sure it worked and it was fine. I didn’t realise it was you in the woods on Tuesday night. I would have stopped to have a chat. How did your lot like the secret trails? I bet you didn’t go down the steep rocky one ?
I make heavy duty bash guard/skidplates for the Meridas but one of my mates has a Vitus E Sommet and as it uses the Shimano motor as well and he has fitted one to it. It really needs the position of the bend altering to fit better so if there's enough interest I can sort it. They are so tough I...
From my experience of taking an E8000 apart it’s not a job for the average bloke in his shed. The one I took to bits is a brand new one so I don’t know if the seals are any better than the E7000. The E8000 on my bike has done 3500 miles and has no issues at all at the moment. My plan is to swap...
They must have motors on the shelf available and just send knackered ones back for repair. I don't think Shimano have enough for shops to be able to do that at the moment. Actually, that gives me an idea. I've got two Shimano E8000 motors spare. I could just do a same day turn round and just...
Yes there's a tapered sprag clutch on the main bottom bracket shaft (under the narrow green circuit board you can see in my photo). I've passed some grease onto a supplier I use in my job to see what I need. It looks expensive stuff whatever it is. I'm not sure if I have the time to set it up as...
I don't think adding more grease will quiet it down much, depends what's worn if it's noisy.
You'd have to be careful what type of grease you used as well. There's two sorts in there and some greases will weaken the nylon gears. I'm getting the grease spec. sorted so I should be able to let you...
I stripped this motor specifically to get bearing and seal sizes so I can fix them or supply bearings for folk to do them for themselves. Most people take things like this back for shops to do but I'm not like that plus it's taking weeks to get repairs and replacement motors done and it's only...
Nothing on the motor is serviceable if you talk to Shimano, however, if it's just bearings on the bottom bracket worn, they can be changed. I think they will last longer than conventional BB bearings as the seals are much better quality. I've got a motor in bits right now.
I live 10 miles from Matlock and ride with DVATC who you've probably heard of as we regularly ride in the Matlock area every Tuesday night. I can sort you out no problem.
Hi, I'm in Derbyshire and have all the kit to change your limit to the USA spec. i.e. 20mph.The details of the software I use comes from this chap : vadII
I send him motor details and he sends a licence key to unlock the motor.
The only thing I changed on my motor was from UK to USA setting. I think that is all it needs. I have found Boost has more than enough power to the point where if I try and climb a super steep climb I actually flip the bike over or loose traction before it runs out of power. Best to leave power...
