    Bafang m510

Great news, hopefully my spare motor will be here soon as negotiating with Bafang to get the other 2 repaired is very slow

I tend to agree, 500w is plenty, if the limit is applied sensibly i.e. not jumping in and out of attenuated and non attenuated.

    Bafang M500 and M600 motors

Follow the instructions in the linked post, you run use the hosts file to redirect to a local server running in python to avoid needing valid credentials. Dealers aren't keen on giving out credentials it seems: https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=100777&start=425#p1597881

Everyone: Has anyone actual verified they've flashed that specific firmware? (screenshot of BESST controller page with actual version of that specific firmware). I have yet to see it and every attempt to flash the 0.28 version failed on mine whereas even on a partially fragged controller the...

If it's the one with 0.28 instead of 1.28 in the middle of the name, yes. But it only copies to the besst tool, not from besst to controller.

Does anyone think an M500 controller could replace the controller in a M510 motor (like some people using the M600 controller in the M500, with a couple of wiring mods?). I can't find M510 controllers anywhere, but M500s are commonplace

For me it's the controller (electronics in the motor), it will only communicate with the BESST tool and nothing else, not my CANBUS dongle or the HMI. I can send commands via CANBUS to the HMI and change the voltage display etc. but can't send commands to the controller via the dongle or the...

Sounds very like the issue I've had, although I can still communicate and flash the controller with the BESST tool. The original HMI won't come on at all, but the 2 others I have will turn on when attached to the BESST tool and the motor, I can even run the motor calibration and it spins. So...

Nice idea, but I tried the rename to a short file name, moved it to a shorter path. Also as a control I renamed the known working original bin file as follows: And that still worked, so any other ideas?

Ironically, it was when I checked to see if I really did update it later on that I screwed everything up, so good luck (or at least have better luck than I did). I think I had a partial upload that I pulled the lead out too early but it seemed to still upload later even after it was trashed, it...

Yeah apparently a lot of attenuation of the power on in the original f/w at levels that most consider a bit too early. I've not done a long enough ride to hit it yet though as I only got down to 56% battery on the one long ride I did and now my motor is toast due either mine or bafang's...

Did you see 2 progress bars: 1. uploading to BESST 2. when you plug the motor back in and it uploads from BESST to motor? Then the test light should appear on the besst box (blue light) (the above is a screenshot from 1. upload of newer file and 2. besst box update from older file) I got...

I followed the same routine for stock firmware, this works from upload to the BESST tool to the final flashing to the drive controller. I've also edited filename as described above for the new file from github. The final upload doesn't work. Upload to BESST tool works in both cases but final...

I'm starting to think a 3rd party controller is the way to go on this, there is one possibility that might fit the bill: https://ebikes.ca/product-info/grin-products/baserunner.html The v4 apparently supports a torque sensor and PAS (it says 12V though, not sure what the one in the M510/M600...

Yes, I'm at a loss to see how a failed upgrade to the m510 can trash a HMI so badly that plugging it into another motor can trash that too. Seems like a very bad design. There's still hope though, as I think it might be the power going up from the controller to the HMI that is the issue as CAN...

    Bafang m510

Yes, looks like attaching the HMI from the M510 fried it, to be clear it worked initially, with the E160 HMI (used walkmode). Then I thought I see if the C230 controller worked with it and it never fried something. Looking at the board it sort of responds to the - button and the pwr button...

    Bafang m510

I decided to recheck mine and I was mistaken, it didn't flash. I was maybe mislead by my inexperience of flashing the m series controller. I reflashed the older file and although it flashed, now the drive can't be turned on by any of my HMIs (DP240, E160 and whatever the one with is called)...

Yeah I think my cadence sensor needs a new battery, it was all over the place today 🙃 I used the python thing to bypass login issues, but had to stop the http server stuff that runs on my workstation as part of visual studio. I was surprised at how little we can actually change though...

Just in the middle of a ride (10 miles in). All in all pretty good, very impressed with the response when climbing technical rooty rocky stuff. Only complaint is occasionally it cuts off if I reduce cadence or possibly the force on the pedals. I'm a high cadence rider and using short cranks (150...
