    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

Maybe you could offer a conformal coating service alongside your uprated bearings / seals should the project come to fruition. And yes, you could start with mine as the test mule I guess.

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

Excellent, now we are talking. Cant beat having professional input at times like this. :) (y) Personally, if possible, I would be more interested to see PCB images of a motor you stripped that didnt have such excess bearing failure. If indeed you are ever asked to work on one with no massive...

GIANT Traumas. Are they BATTERY firmware related?

Even that would be better than the reality that neither us or giant seem to know how to fix these problems. If the batteries just hated me I could sell them on and buy new, vowing to forever keep them warm and dry, never forget their birthday and never look sideways at another lithium cell...

GIANT Traumas. Are they BATTERY firmware related?

Temperature. Around 8degrees C. Spare battery back at the car had been inside the car of course and still didn’t work. Allied to the fact that my battery worked on his bike for another hour but still wouldn’t on mine during a couple of stops where we tried them again, we can assume it’s nothing...

GIANT Traumas. Are they BATTERY firmware related?

Tried all that first, trying a mates battery was the last resort. also, my discharge connector is brand new, has the shim mod and remember my 2nd battery also wouldn’t work back at the car. (Updated main post to reflect that now) Plus, back at my house an hour later, both my batteries worked...

    Giant Trance E+ Sudden Off!!

It’s really disappointing to read all these tales of woe. I had hoped the newer bikes than mine would be less problematic but it seems not?\ I’ve just posted up an intriguing one that is interesting given you got a BATTERY firmware update…..!

I can’t disagree with you at all. I wonder if the bearing man could give us a clue as to what kind of moisture ingress he sees, and maybe give us some images of water damage he has seen?

GIANT Traumas. Are they BATTERY firmware related?

My wiring is ALL like this. Motor, CANbus, RCone. All of it. I can sit a garden hose on it all day and it has no issues. Yet still we all have these damn problems!

GIANT Traumas. Are they BATTERY firmware related?

Here is something to ponder over. Could our power down issues be battery firmware related? A few hundred miles ago I fitted to my MY20 Trance E+2Pro. New motor. New loom. (Latest 21 version) New discharge connector. (Latest 21 version) Shim mod.(1x) New charging port. New ride control one...

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

One of my pals has a similar age and mileage bike with no dramas too. seems you can get lucky. Interestingly, his motor started out quiet too, as has my new one that seems ok.

So they have likely stuck with the manufacturers released DBC then. Probably driven by Yamaha since they are the high current consumer. I wonder which bit fails? I would hedge a bet that its a motor ID signal to say “I am Syncdrive, not Yamaha” which unlocks the extra 20% power mode and...

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

Damn. Makes sense too, i bet Giant changed the Canbus ID for their proprietary “Syncdrive“stuff so it was no longer on the Yamaha DBC. For those who dont understand what that means, the CANbus is simply a very robust communication system that allows a single pair of cables (A bus) to send...

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

Sorry mate, i saw your comment but didn't think they were internally that different you would go from predicting a 60’000 mile life span with rider weight and use age having zero effect on them, to just “The pro lasts just 5 mins“, so i qualified my thoughts on the only one i have experience of...

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

I recall you telling me this before when we were chatting about my Miss Friday as I call her. Can the internal circuitry be swopped over to make it compatible witha Giant frame? Example: Take a proprietary Yamaha Motor from you brand new. Install my GIANT circuit board and harness to it.

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

That would be nice... I do get your point about bearing size and visually would agree with you. But my personal (And professional) experience tells me the bearings are proving to be problematic on these pro motor bikes when used off road. Example: I am on my 2nd bike. First Bike (MY19 Trance...

I look forward to the day a 3rd party brings out a compatible motor we can fit to these bikes. £1100 is crazy to buy a spare!

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

Morning pal, Sorry, i probably should have elaborated. I was referring more to the difference in wear between different bike useage scenarios: To try and elaborate further. Scenario 1: A 50 Kg Rider does 500 miles, 90% fully seated, on fireroads and tarmac. Scenario 2: A 50 Kg rider does 500...

    GIANT Trance "Bench Test" Rig

I am sure most are ok to be fair. I guess it’s a useage / level of abuse thing coming into play also. Mine does big miles on rough terrain with a pretty heavy guy aboard. That plays hell with the motor bearings. I am afraid I’ve no clue. Would be interested to know myself.
