Both were XL. The suspension on both Rails was extended to 170 front 165ish rear. Fox 38 Factory with coil conversion front and Ohlins TTX rear.
I can't say enough good things about Trek, they stood behind their product and provided excellent customer service.
I had a ‘21 and a ‘22 9.8 XT Rail. There is quite a difference between the two years. I spent big $$ getting the suspension and fit right for me, however it was still just OK. I never really felt super comfortable. I have since got rid of the ‘22 Rail. I had some substantial quality control...
Dress for the crash not for the ride, I’d rather be slightly uncomfortable for a few hours than suffering for weeks.
The Loam Wolf did a pretty good pad review on YouTube.
Frame protection for sure, the paint is made of the same stuff they coat m&m’s with, it chips if you look at it sternly.
Stock tires are only good for a bike path. Re-torque everything. Fit the bike to you…seat, bars, stem, grips..etc.
Ohlins rear shock makes a pretty substantial improvement...
I went 2.6 Magic Marry trail in front and 2.6 Big Betty Trail w/ Cush Core in the rear. Works well
Had 2.5 Assegai DD max grip front and 2.4 DHR II max grip rear. Tried with/without Cush Core. Excellent on the drops, but horrible rolling resistance. Felt like the brakes were on or I was towing a...
@torabora851 That looks like great riding, sweet trails!
I currently have a ‘22 Rail 9.8, previously had a ‘21 Rail 9, a ‘20 Rail 7, a Santa Cruz Bullit, and an intenseTaser MX…yeah, I have bicycle issues. The Bullit would thrive in your conditions, #1 choice the only downfall is the EP8 motor...
2022 Rail 9.8 XT 750Wh battery
After installing Cush Core Pro F/R and Maxxis Assegai DD front and DHR DD rear tires my battery life has suffered considerably. After a 15 mile ride (3280 ft Climbing), mostly in eMTB and Turbo I was down to 16%. My son has a stock Rail 7 w/625 battery and he still...
Keep an eye on the Mino Link, mine came loose and fell out. Glad I caught it before a catastrophic failure. Bought an extra to throw in the pack just in case.
Torqued and blue lock tight applied to both sides 🤞
Unfortunately this “Super Taper” is still new. With all the supply issues, it seems like the aftermarket support is a bit delayed. Just trying to explain what a 1.8” tapered steer tube was to the local bike stores or online vendors was a challenge.
But it was all worth it, the 170mm Fox 38...
I wasn’t happy with the Rockshock Zeb and wanted to install a pair of Fox38’s I had.
The ‘22 Rail 9.8 & 9.9 is equipped with a 1.8” tapered steer tube. To run a standard fork with a 1.5 taper you need a 1.8/1.5 crown race reducer. Unfortunately it seems there are none available in the States. I...
I’m 6’2” with a long torso and a bad back. I need the extra room to stretch out otherwise my lower back hurts.
I had a ‘21 Rail in XL, that bike definitely turned better than my ‘22 XL Rail. The ‘21 felt a little cramped for me, the ‘22 fits me better. I’m very happy with my purchase. I had a...
