I've recently purchased my first eMTB :) It's a 2018 E160 900E.
I've been looking for electronic copies of the Owner's Manual, plus any other component Manuals, that would have come with the bike at the time of original purchase.
Are the manuals at this link the best I'm going to find...
Hi again.
I can't forget the idea of buying this 9.6 Jam2. It is a beautiful bike with lots of good things going for it. The L vs XL frame size is still nagging me though.
According to the specs the frame geometry of the 9.6 E8000 (only came in S, M and L) is the identical to the same...
Thanks all.
The current owner is being very helpful and has offered to take the bike to his usual LBS so it can be sized up against me :) Very kind offer.
My home town of Brisbane is now in a 3 day Covid lockdown and with the following Easter holidays it's unlikely I'll be able to do anything...
Thanks again for all the contributions.
I will re-study the geometries between sizes and brands. But it is a bit of a minefield for the average Joe. It seems the 9.6 Plus wasn't made in an XL frame size and even within the Focus stable, the different year models have different geometry specs...
Thanks for the replies. I can see why a good Dealer would be such an asset at the time of bike purchase. I only wish I had the money to buy new.
I can't remember the exact website (Commencal or Specialized or Merida) but apparently my height, leg length and arm length puts me at the "normal"...
Hi all.
I test rode a used Jam2 9.6 Plus today on some very hilly bitumen. The bike was thoroughly impressive and a good candidate for my first eMTB.
The steering was nice and sharp - maybe that was due to the 27.5 plus wheels? My other experiences (2x hire bikes) were 29" wheels.
My only...
Hi all.
I’m going to test ride a used Merida 2019 e160E with the E8000 motor on the weekend. I've hired two other brands previously but they had a Brose and Bosch motor. So no prior experience with the E8000.
I’d like some advice on what health checks I can do on the battery and motor with...
Hi fenwick458.
It's the 2019 version of the 900E in XL that I've been chasing here in Australia. In my time looking (over the past 6 months or so) I've never seen one come up for sale.
Thanks for the replies.
I agree that the Australian consumer should be well covered for warranty claims, by law, regardless of what the various Retailers state on their websites. But I'd hate to have to pay/wait for a decision in my favour.
At this very moment, there are a few used Commencal...
Hi all.
I'm thinking about purchasing a used eMTB. There are a few candidates on FB from time to time.
Just wondering about warranty here in Australia. Are they transferable to a second owner? It's Merida, Focus and Commencal I have in mind.
It seems the XL version is the unicorn of the used eMTB market. Since I've been looking I've found two L versions, a chicken with teeth and a pile of rocking horse poo. But no XL version :)
Would it be possible/practical/sensible to turn an L into an XL with bars, bar clamp and "long travel"...
Hi All.
I should have bought an e160 900E in 2019. The Di2 system, Saint brakes and suspension components are big pluses in my mind. And the external battery would be very practical for recharging in the work office. Of course, it’s way too late to buy new. But this is the bike I still daydream...
Hi all. And Mods - please move this ad if necessary.
I want to buy a 2019 Merida E160 900E in XL size. This is the bike I should have purchased new but the industry has moved very quickly and has passed me by.
This is the version with the Shimano E8000 drive unit, Shimano SC-E8000 display...
Unfortunately, I'm back up to 120kg after recent surgery and not always making good dietary choices during recovery i.e. snacking. It seems I currently weigh too much according some of the eMTB specs :(
I now have more motivation than ever to get a eMTB and begin trail riding at a slow initial...
Wow! I think I'll have to start with the reconnaissance of the local banks :)
I have to say though the pair of "elbows" used for the lower shock mount used on these Focus frames always looks a little fussy and strikes me as odd. Their design must mean there is not enough clearance for a weld...
I'm thinking about robbing a bank so I can get one of these :)
Seriously though, you are very lucky to have a local Focus Retailer who actually carries a wide range of models.
Hi All.
It's been a while since I've been around here. But my recent health issues are behind me :)
I'm keen all over again to get my first eMTB and looking for a good used bike now. No doubt it's more likely to find a bike with an E8000 motor than the EP8.
Is there any burning reason to...
