I don't think they are difficult to apply at all. Lots of good videos showing how to install. Just takes some patience. Good lighting and a bike stand make things much easier.

Looks like it overheated.

Make sure your brake caliper is centered. They can be adjusted slightly inward or outward on the brake caliper mount to make sure they are equal distant from the rotor. Mine was doing the same thing and a slight adjustment to get them centered in relation to the rotor fixed it.

When it works! I bricked a EW-EN100 unit using Bluetooth and had to have LBS restore the firmware. After that I bought a SM-PCE02 and have never had problems since.
