The Rise in general is slightly bigger but because the seat tube angle is so much more forward than the Kona it makes it easier to ride, being more forward allows me to feel more in control on the tech stuff, ability to balance, where as on the Kona being back more is more down hill focused.
Now that you have put a tube in it and set the bead, leave it set on one side while removing the tube from the other and put the tire back in the rim trying to keep the other side still beaded... either add sealant b4 putting the tire back together or remove the stem valve and add it that way...
This might be something I might use later in life but the trails I have ridden so far (North Carolina, Georgia and Florida) i have not had the need for the 60nm but a few times and I am only in mediocre shape and 57...
I went almost immediately to profile 2 but have not messed with it much and have gone on at least 10 rides... I do plan on changing to the larger spacer on the rear shock as I have too much pressure in it right now in order to not bottom out making it almost not there from a feeling perspective...
The approach I have seen is to make it a mullet to bring the numbers back closer to alignment with intended geo... not saying it is right or wrong as I do not know enough to do that:)
I don’t know what an avocado has to do with it but that is a part of it for sure... new trails, new larger pedals, new bike, sag setting, getting older and eyes not quite as sharp as they use to be ?
The original question about SL vs Rise on steep technical in my mind between these two is more about the climb than the downhill and therefore I chose the Rise due to twice the available torque and it would have been a way more difficult choice for me is the SL had the same power.
I had just purchased a Dominion DHF 2.5” and on the very first ride on Pinhoti 3 and then 2 and put a hole in the side wall... my LBS offered cushcore which requires special valve stems as I put them on my wife’s bike and she loves the feel of them... but I did not want that much weight and did...
I agree with you that if you are just consider the bike alone that they are not close and that 30 nm of extra torque is more power than a 10lb difference... to our collective point the weight of the rider and the shape of the rider have a lot to do with it?
I actually have... it does matter what your fitness is for sure and with the guys I have ridden with, they are close accept for the steepest climbs. The FF gives those guys the ability to do things that they certainly could not do on an analog for sure...
