50lbs vs 53lbs bike — will it be noticeable?

Yep, it was an Evoc FR Trail E-Ride Protector Backpack. On CRC here.

Finally, a coil conversion for your fork that can be reversed.

Full Factory (Fin's ex TF) converted my Lyrik to coil and I can confirm it's well worth it. This just makes it even more of a no brainer.

Oooh, get you and your moneybags 😂🤦‍♂️

    What insurance are you using?

In the UK Pedalcover are insanely good. Moving back to Pedalcover more than halved our house insurance compared to NFU this year. It covers all five of my bikes, total value £20+, plus house and contents. We got burgled in 2019 by thieves specifically (and exclusively) targeting my bikes and...

50lbs vs 53lbs bike — will it be noticeable?

This is why I spent the money on a proper battery rucksack when I was using a second battery. The spinal board in the back of the bag seemed like a must to me. The bag has now gone on to a new home now I'm back to only one battery.

    Apple Watch?

I use Apple Watch for ride and heart tracking and it does a great job. Accurate recording, as far as I can tell, of everything, and since the last update has HR zones etc. Also has simple, reliable integration with Strava etc. A watch SUCKS for navigation. It's pretty good if you're walking...

Trek Rail 9.8 GX AXS Gen3 OR Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Alloy

I wouldn't worry about long term durability of carbon. The frame will outlast the motor system. I ride a Rail 9.8 XT (with GX AXS, which I love), but mine is the 2021 model so not Bosch Smart. Smart is harder to chip, if you care about that, but more pertinent is that the Rail got a LOT longer...

Would you buy a bike that can't be derestricted ?

That's the problem, rules are not generally needed for those with common sense. You're being wilfully obtuse here. Sunglasses are worn when it's bright. If it gets dark you don't get bikers thinking "well I don't want to get bugs in my eyes, I'll leave the sunglasses on even though I can't...

What's been your buying experience on the forum?

I've only had good experiences. Sold my Merida to a fella up in Liverpool. He paid a deposit by bank transfer, then collected a couple of weeks later when he was passing. Met next to the Post Office, paid the cash straight into my account when he was happy with the bike. Sold a Rucksack the...

Would I benefit from a new bike?

Once you get your head around what they do then it's actually not that bad. Compression is easy. High speed wide open, low speed a small number of clicks (FFS will advise) to keep the front end up in berms and under braking. Rebound is slightly more complicated, so start from what FFS suggest...

Would you buy a bike that can't be derestricted ?

Be careful, the French have bought in massive penalties for ebike derestriction. Fine up up to €30,000, up to one year in prison, points on your driving license, and confiscation of the bike until it is returned to original spec. You're unlikely to get caught, but wowsers.

Good decision, Fin knows what he's doing.

Would I benefit from a new bike?

I ride a Trek Rail 9.8 hard with a Fox 36e on it, and I just came back from 6 days riding in the Alps on a coil converted Lyric Ultimate. I've never once felt I needed a bigger fork, and we were running the reds pretty fast according to Strava. Steve makes a good point. You've already got a...

Would I benefit from a new bike?

A new fork will be a big upgrade. I personally wouldn't get a 38 mm fork for the riding you describe, or indeed for any riding by a mere mortal. The Fox 36 will be lighter, plusher, and far more compliant than any of the beefier options, and is more than stiff enough.

    eMTB or gravel/hybrid

If you converted your Kona to a flat bar and liked it then you're going to be used to a much shorter reach than is typical for any given size. Bikes designed for a drop bar are at least 30 mm shorter on the top tube as the stem and drop bar combo is much longer than a stem and flat bar...

    Confused which mudguard

Mudguards working and mudguards not looking ridiculous are sadly mutually exclusive. Certainly in winter I'd recommend just biting the bullet and getting Mudhuggers or equivalent. The big ones. Look stupid, work brilliantly.

I already sold mine as a result of this thread, sorry!

I struggle to justify the price of EMTBs when this cost less….

As always. Strong, light, cheap. Choose two. Weight is far less of a factor (relatively) on any motorbike, and the prices reflect that. Add 5-10 kg to the weight of your ebike and watch the price plummet. Plus all the other factors covered well in the above discussion.

Selling as frame only. Viable option?

I bought a Trek Rail to replace my Merida, and I spent an afternoon swapping some bits around to suit my preferences. I figured the Merida was worth a bit more with some brand new parts on it, and I got to keep the bits I liked (36 Factory forks for example) for my new bike.

    Evoc rucksack

Don't know if it's of any interest, but I have a 20 l Evoc FR Trail E-Ride Protector Backpack AW19 that I don't need any more. Had a Shimano bike with two batteries, but it's gone and I don't have a spare battery any more. Would be open to offers.
