I would argue the SL’s are the bike you describe being as close to a regular bike as possible. The Rise is a full fat that’s tried to shave a few pounds.
Horses for courses. As I still ride MTB most of the time I don’t mind a (heavy) full fat eMTB. If I had one bike to do it all then maybe I would look at a light weight eMTB.
Not sure about Bosh, but on my old e8000 ST Unlocker was pretty discreet and reversible, same goes for Brose.
No 1 criteria for me when it comes to buying an Ebike. Can I de-restrict and still get warranty support.
Horses for courses. I’ve been without an Ebike for 18-months, love my analog bike, I enjoy the grind - most of the time.
An Ebike gives me speed and power on the flat mellow trails, less cardio and more time to focus on having fun. No doubt having an easy shuttle is also great.

What’s the general consensus RE carbon VS alloy?
I’m weighing up the comp alloy (with upgrades) or Carbon expert. My gut feel at the moment is that the Carbon is really not worth the extra cash, from my perspective at least. My riding tends to be enduro/jumps/crashing :).
Not my first Ebike...
Good to know. I actually like shorter (by today’s standards) more twitchy geometry. Having said that, the S4 is longer and slacker than my YT Jeffsy, so hopefully it’s a good fit.
I’m in the same position, both good bikes. I’ve gone for the Levo. It’s an expensive bike but I prefer the integration and the geometry of the Levo. Also managed to get good discount. LBS support was also a big factor, my local shop will usually do a same day repair on Levo’s.
What would you get instead?
Not had en Ebike for a few years so it’s disappointing to hear that motor reliability has not improved. The Rise was top of my list.
Sold my eBike 12 months ago, mainly because my mrs was not happy with 4 bikes in the garage.
eBikes are awesome, but I found myself getting weaker - after months on the eBike getting back on the MTB was tough, but as my legs regained their strength I found it more rewarding going up and more...
Out of my eBike riding mates I’ve heard of one Shimano motor failure and countless Brose issues, however the service from the Specilized dealer (Berkshire Bikes) seems excellent and stuff is sorted pretty quickly.
There will be problems at some point no matter what bike you get. The trick is to...
