The EP6 motor characteristics is similar to the old EP8, at least it was when I compared them just over a year ago. Motor design is similar to the EP801.

I've been excited to see if Orbea would finally make a full-power bike weighing about 21 kg at around €5k. The answer is finally here and it's ... complicated. The entry level model, the 2025 Rise SL H30 has the old, weaker Shimano EP6 RS 60 Nm motor and the old 540 Wh battery. So, it's not the...
I meant XXL, the Norwegian equivalent of Decathlon (: They're a Cube distributor. And bikester.no (+ se and dk) is back up agan with new owners. They've still got Cube, but I don't know if that's just leftovers...
Yeah, visiting a dealer to do these changes is a bit of a hazzle. Shimano says these settings can be changed using the upcoming version of the E-Tube app. It's supposed to drop sometime this fall.
Shimano just dropped the 4.3.0 update for the EP801 and EP600 motors. I usually don't do articles about software updates, unless it’s something very interesting. The Auto Shift ver. 2.2 might be big news, it remains to be seen. The carry over settings definitely seem interesting.
Motor overrun...
Yeah. Cube was one of the first brands selling emtbs and one would expect they had built a customer base, like Haibike did. But here in Norway, it wasn't easy getting bikes. If you wanted one, you had to preorder it. But even if you did, some people had their orders canceled. Availability is...
Every year we do a poll in a Norwegian eMTB facebook group. In this small survey, we ask what brand their emtb is. The question is not what brand they think is the best. We do this to get an impression of market shares. I talk to the winner and a few others in this video.

When interviewing Nick Murdick, a Shimano MTB product manager. We briefly talked about motor over-run, or carry-over. He told us the EP8 does in fact have over-run and it's only available in Boost mode. So, we tried to find it, and we compared the EP8 to the Bosch Performance CX. This video...
@RoJo Thanks! Yeah, the bikes were ridden in the lowest gear (34-51) for 60, 80 and 100 rpm. Same rider for all runs.
To me, it seems difficult to say anything about efficiency. It's difficult reading battery state-of-charge with more precision than 1%, so the test loop/hill needs to be quite...
We’ve tested and ridden both motors several times before. But we decided to do a new comparison of these motors as they’ve changed quite a bit since they were launched.
Changes to the Bosch Performance CX
Our first ride on the Bosch Performance CX gen 4 happened well into 2019. This nice and...
If you’re like me, you’ve never heard of FitNord before. This is a Finnish brand and as far as I can tell, they only sell their bikes in a few Nordic countries. But even if you live elsewhere, this review might be of interest to you. The FitNord Ranger 700FS appears to have an off-the-shelf...
I don't remember Cube saying anything about max fork length. But adding 10 mm might just be a good idea. It adds a few mm of bottom bracket height, which could be useful in the Low setting.
BESV is out with a refreshed line of full suspension emtbs. The cheaper TRS models come with an alloy frame and two options of suspension travel. Then there’s the longer travel TCE and shorter travel TCA, both with carbon frames. We’ve tested the top-of-the-line BESV TCA 1.1. It’s a 29er bike...
The old 540 Wh battery was powerful enough to drive the standard EP8, but the 360 Wh battery wasn't. The new batteries are the same cell configuration with newer cells. The new 5.8 Ah cells bumps the capacity up to 420 & 630. And it seems the continous power output has increased by ~20%. The...
A few months ago, I wrote an article about a great bike that didn’t exist and how the Orbea Rise could be that bike. The new Orbea Rise is here, did they hit it out of the park with this one?
The Shimano EP801 RS+ motor and bigger batteries
Let’s start with what’s possibly the most...
The new Bosch SX powered Canyon Neuron:ONfly is light, but not superlight. Looking at the specs and geometry, it's nothing that sets it apart. But look at the price. Sub €/£5k for a nicely specc'ed CF7 is unusual for this category, and the range topping LTD is way below 10k...
Finally, Canyon is out with their first mid-assist, lightweight emtb, the Canyon Neuron:ONfly CF. I expected Canyon to introduce a completely new superlight model with a 150 mm fork. But that’s not what we’re getting. Check out the bike in this video before reading on.
The “fly”
Canyon hasn’t...
How many full-power emtbs have been launched this year? Yeah, Merida did one. Norco is here to fix this by introducing two bikes, the new Sight VLT and Range VLT. These have powerful motors and big 750 Wh batteries. The Sight and Range VLT aren’t new models for Norco. So, what’s the deal with...
Dune, that’s a cool name. And just like the movie, the Mondraker Dune is out in it’s second iteration. The first Mondraker Dune was an enduro pedalbike released in 2009. Mondraker already have a long travel emtb, the Level. But they brought back the old name for the lightweight, mid-assist...
My impression is the new Shimano motors are more durable and better weather sealed than the previous EP8. I guess I would keep riding it as long as it's under warranty and then have it serviced by some 3rd party motor repair shop.
