I had a quick chat with dr Vikram Godbole about "charge2bike", a new standard for charging ebikes. See the interview in the video and keep reading for more details.
The CHAdeMO consortium was formed to create a standard for charging e-bikes. In addition to Bosch, it consists of several...
The new Forestal e-Cygnus is a slightly unusual emtb. It comes in two spec levels, Halo and Diode, both with 120 mm rear suspension. Forestal label these XC bikes, downcountry or just light short-travel trail bikes.
The Bosch SX motorsystem
Forestal introduce the e-Cygnus as a...
The M1 EN is one of four M1 models built on the same frame. Well, it’s actually six models, but I’m overlooking the “GT” SUV bike and the “FG” gravel bike. M1 Sporttechnik takes an interesting approach with their new emtb. They’ve got just one frame, and you choose whether you want it set up on...
There has been talk about solid-state batteries for years, and I've lost interest a bit lately. Toyota declared they would solve SSB by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. And as "luck" would have it, they even got an extra year to acheive their goal. And sure, come 2021, they had cars that could be driven...
We have seen some progress in battery tech lately. Not long ago, the default 21700 cell was about 70g and 5Ah. These were used in the 360, 540 and 720 Wh batteries. Giant was the first (afaik) to launch versions of these batteries with slightly higher capacity using a 5.56 Ah cell. But the cells...
Merida has used Bosch-motors for years, but not on the emtbs. The full suspension eOne-Forty and eOne-Sixty always had, and still have Shimano motors. But it’s nice to have options. If you’re set on buying a Bosch Powered emtb, you can now add Merida to your list.
Merida use their «AGILOMETER...
I asked and was told it was just a random, generic frame ordered for the CX gen5 launch. I accepted that answer and forgot about it. But then another journalist said he'd heard it was an upcoming bike, but he didn't know what brand. It didn't look like a Bulls to me, like they used for the SX...
Hey. I haven't looked into the 22700 cells since I wrote this article. Nice to see the data sheet. I believe one (the?) reason Giant went with the 22700 cells was to build a small battery with a higher current output than what was available back then. The Energypak 800 was released like over 3...
When testing the new Bosch Performance CX gen5, we were also introduced to the TRP E.A.S.I. A12 automatic shifting and the the new ABS profiles. We had a chat with Daniel Klemme, Bosch ABS product manager. Check out that interview for more detailed info about functionality, servicing, etc. This...
Yeah, I find this one the most interesting too. It's the same cell configuration as found in the Orbea and YT 540 Wh batteries. It's a 60 Wh bump and practically no change in weight. 600 Wh will be enough for many, and it saves 600 g off the old PowerTube 625.
It's nice that they dropped the battery capacity while increasing the capacity. But the old PowerTube 750 was quite heavy, so it was low hanging fruit. There are 720 Wh batteries weighing just over 4 kg with the same generation cell chemistry (21700 5 Ah cells).
Regardless, the new 600 and 800...
To my understanding, the batteries wont work with the gen4/BDU37. I assume it could be fixed with Bosch releasing a firmware update, but what do I know.
