Interesting thread. I must admit something should look ‘right’ and sometimes internal does that, sometimes external does.
1. If you did a proper analysis on the two examples you use I’d be willing to bet the Levo has a lower CoG.
2. As already pointed out a modular battery (say 300wh) would be...
Anything built in the UK by hand is going to be more pricy, yes. They have an ex-demo Alpine 6E for 5k at the moment but I’d ring them to check. I love my Surge, and boy is it over engineered.
I think a step forward might come when a lighter/less powerful motor is combined with some kind of efficient CVT, replacing the gears too. You could also then make some more optimisations by having an auto mode for the whole lot.
Would make maintenance easier too.
Clearly there’s a compromise to going lighter, like most design choices.
You see this in the lightweight, short travel, long and slack trail bikes spearing now too. Some might need a 15kg enduro bike but others might prefer a 12kg trail bike as that does most of what they want while also being...
Test ride. I’d ordered a Levo Comp Carbon on the basis of a short ride. However, when I wanted to confirm with a longer test ride I wasn’t that keen. I went with my 27.5 Orange as it just felt more suitable for me on a similar test ride.
I chose Hope F20 as I wanted to try them. I love them. Grippy but not too grippy if you’re careful with pin placement/omission. Also exquisitely made up the road from me and I like supporting local.
If I was to try others I’d probably go composite, say, Burgtec.
As for butchered shins. I have...
There’s another thread about EMTB vs MTB that Gary started recently that touches on this too. Never mind EMTB, there’s some discussion happening around the current MTB designs. Are short travel, light, slack and long, trail bikes better for fun than enduro for many Etc etc.
The cynic in me says...
I find his interviews interesting but like many folk he’s quite clearly ‘invested’ in his view which is a turn off sometimes in ‘thinkers’. I speak not from an MTB point of view specifically - you’re more experienced to comment on that than me after all - but from a POV that likes to consider...
I don’t disagree. The technology will have to change before this can be even remotely considered. Closest we’ve seen is the Fazua type system.
I also enjoyed this analysis from Chris Porter, who I suspect you might know personally. It’s sort of on the same lines. It also partly challenges your...
So, @Gary, in the spirit of the discussion, surely what we see in the first video is the rise of what the Pinkbikers might refer to as “Downcountry” bikes? 11kg 120-130mm travel slacker 29” XC/trail bikes? In that case hoisting to the top of a mountain is much easier and fine technique better on...
I have a thin head, my Specialized Ambush Angi fits a treat. Nice and light, MIPS, well vented (and easy to wear a cap under when cold), no stupid mushroom head.
I wash trainers, skate shoes etc all the time. I would never dream of tumbledrying or using 40 deg wash (most modern detergents work fine at 30 deg or even cold). Drying on the radiator for a couple of hours is fine.
From this thread it’s looking like we’re not well catered for by American shoe...
I’m have no connection to the STUnlocker guys but I think the app is great. I didn’t want to risk messing with earlier FW versions though and stuck to a region change.
