SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

I’m afraid as an EE it’s either correct or it’s not. Unfortunately all too often I see basic motor and battery function perhaps misunderstand by the poster along with way people will accept anything written on the internet must be true. In my view incorrect information blindly followed can...

SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

Electronics design and implementation of new products engineer some years ago. I spent years playing with both the BBS02 and then years playing with the TSDZ2 engine and finally just fitting a M600 and enjoying riding.

SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

You are correct in that you are taking a wild stab. Typically a higher voltage motor will have a slightly larger stator with more windings to handle the increased power. That larger stator will increase the torque output over the smaller lower voltage motor. The downside is that motor will not...

SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

Has anyone checked yet if a 43V unit will also run on a 48V battery ? My M600 48V unit will run quite happily on a 52V battery even though it is factory set for max 48V batteries. Huge advantages if we quietly could buy 43V motors and just plug on a 48V battery. The other consideration if one...

SZZS specific CEF50-main thread (initial builds and troubleshooting related only)

Virtually all newly designed commercial motors are all edging to where the real innovation in small DC motor design has been since about 2010, 48 volts. The real innovators seem to be now moving from 52 volts to 72 volts mainly to get a higher rpm with more torque at those levels ( you may...

    Wet weather riding

Don't not rate the rain in NZ, some of the most heaviest and intense I've seen.

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

As much as we want to reduce the unsprung weight, to the average rider internal gear hubs such as the Kindernay maybe enough and some have already been fitted with belts. https://kindernay.com/

    Wet weather riding

Remember the days when every connector was filled with grease, surprisingly effective even on 4x4’s where often the motor could nearly be in water. Filled my Bafang connectors with grease from new as a precaution, touch wood I haven’t had any problems yet.

    Wet weather riding

The big thing about mud and wet weather riding is the fire hose like spray off of the front wheel in particular hitting your battery and motor areas and the almost direct mud throwing rear wheel that lobs mud up your back. Do yourself a favour and fit proper mudguards like the mudhugger series...

    Wet weather riding

Tends to sort the men from the boys that sort of weather :) Maybe I'm just a tad bit sadist but I actually enjoy more the trails in the winter the more muddy and wet they are. Anybody can ride fast nice and dry trails using momentum to counter the small technical difficulties encountered. In...

    Wet weather riding

Yup, if you are worried that your Ebike will fail because you are riding it in the mud and wet, then you really shouldn't own an EBike. Thats what warranties and good design by the manufacturers are there for. You think NZ is bad in the winter, you should ride in the UK all year round where even...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

Most CVT's are set up so that you have an infinite gearing set to best mpg where the computer works out your driving pattern and sets the motor up accordingly and a sport mode which give definitive gear changes so that the driver can pick their gearing to suit their driving. In our EMtb case it...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

I changed back to an 8spd wide ratio 13/48 Suntour rear mech for a bit of fun and found the gear ratios just too wide from my human perspective ( I also was riding analogue at the time ), the motor didn't seem to mind, easily coping with the large change in gear ratios, but pedalling cadence...

New Pinion integrated gearbox and motor (MGU)

12 speed cassettes are designed for analogue bikes to keep us humans in a middle to high cadence where we are most efficient in converting our energy into pedalling force. To enable that we need very narrow gear ratio differences between each gear set which means lots of gears ( remember the 3 x...
